I never heard that you "couldn't" use higher nic with the subohm type tanks. Only that you very likey will WANT lower nic. Of course, not being a subohm-er and strictly a Tootle Puffer at around 7 to 8 watts.

I have a couple of co-workers that have sub-ohm tanks and are right around 6mg. The only reason I thought it was that was I opened up and the coil seemed fine, and once I changed the ejuice, it did taste a "a lot less burnt." But I kinda had your line of thinking, why would the nicotine level make it taste burnt..

But this is a little warning that was on most websites I was looking at when purchasing the tank:

"Tip for new users: We strongly suggest 6mg eLiquid or lower with this atomizer. Sub-ohm atomizers produce higher throat hit than low and standard resistance atomizers. Using this atomizer with a nicotine level above 6mg will usually taste burnt or harsh."

Regardless, Ive been doing DIY ejuice and have been putting about 5.8 or so nicotine and so far so good... lol...

I know you can do it. Just take your time and don't rush. I only have the use of one hand, and I built 22 gauge kanthal on my twisted messes RDA. So I know you can build on anything. I have faith in you. And a ohm readers is VERY IMPORTANT when building your own coils. I bought the coil master DIY kit off sweet-vapes it comes with everything you need to build your own coils. Thank you very much Luke... Its actually been a bit easier than I originally thought, much thanks to the ECF community. I really wish I had done this years ago. Besides getting used to tanks and coils and so forth, its been smooth sailing.... and I am not coughing out my lungs in the morning...That's the best part... I will be happy when I can hit 1 year and not having smoked..

Hey Guys and Gals...

Just a quick question... So as I mentioned, I ordered an ohm reader and it arrived. Below is a picture. I realized to test the resistance, I have to
screw in my tank to the right post in the picture of the device below. But when I insert my tank into my mod, it tells me the resistance on my mod as well. Lol, did I just waste 10 bucks on this? Or is there any particular reason to have an ohm reader if your mod also tells you the resistance of your coil?

I ask as I thought (obviously now foolishly) when I ordered the device that it would tell me the resistance when I formed the coil and I could touch a couple of posts with each end of the kanthal wire, which would then tell me the resistance, before inserting it into anything... That way I could readjust the kanthal wire if necessary...

That's a good final check, and also to cross-check your mod (some of which are...less than perfect, let's just say).

I use a cheap hand-held multimeter to test resistance, but it also finds use when I build electronics for funsies (and for testing lithium batteries for actual voltage as opposed to what my mods claim). So I have a great excu...I mean reason...for owning one.

You could theoretically touch the Kanthal wires to the tester and check it that way as well. It would take a deft hand, but it can be done. Multimeters work better for that, though, I find.

Thank you Morpheus, as always... your great. I moved from NY to Cali a few months back and didn't bring my "little electronics." I had multiple multimeters and probably hundreds of dollars in small electronic devices, half of which I never got around to using... But I share your excu... I mean reasons for having those devices... lol.. My wife used to get on my case about having useless junk.. But they are so fun to play around with and also making stuff. I had just gotten into Arduino and other little electronic projects before we decided to move.

Going to have to rebuild my supply of things on this coast.

A lot of us use mechanical mods (I'm a REO bottom-feeder box mod gal) and those little ohm checkers are great for checking the build on my atty before I put it on the mod. My mod tells me nothing, so I like to make sure everything is okay so that I don't risk a short when I fire it. Who knows...you may not always have a mod with a readout. Can't hurt to have a few cute little toys around just in case....

This is very true. The ohms readers on our devices are not always accurate! I have the little box ohm reader, and have had it a few years now. One of the best investments I've made. And remember...you'll really need it when you start experimenting with mechs. And you will...especially if you want to have some stuff that will survive any coming vapocalypse the FDA may (probably) throw at us!

Also, for lower ohm readings, the multimeters aren't that accurate either! Personally, I wouldn't trust any device that hasn't been professionally calibrated when working with resistances below about 0.3. The base error in the devices is too great to be certain about much when you're running that low, and a very small change in resistance is equivalent to an enormous change in amperage drawn from your battery.

(It's one of the reasons why I'm not a fan of extreme sub-ohming, but that's another story).

For "normal" resistance ranges of 1.0 or above, pretty much anything is accurate enough as long as you know the resistance of your leads (multimeter) or the box is calibrated properly to zero.

But I am a subohm vaper, I like to vape anywhere between .2-.35. Depending on what you're vaping on. To me it really does not matter what your vaping on as long as you are not on the cigarettes anymore.

Never use Nickel/ NI200 or titanium coils in vw mode. ONLY USE NI200 OR TITANIUM COILS IN TEMPERATURE CONTROL MODE. Congrats! For me, I could only do it with WTA ejuice. Now I'm mixing it with regular liquid and "weaning" myself off. But, I smoked for 32 years so hopefully all the advice above with help you continue in your success. Again, CONGRATS!!!!!

I vape at 80 watts on my TFV4 and I don't get a throat hit at all. It depends on what juice you are vaping. Some have a throat hit and some don't.

Thank you Luke, Fourthrok and JC Okie.... Good info to know.. And I will be getting a mechanical mod sometime soon anyway. I was just more curious than anything as one of my coworkers mentioned they had thought about buying one but didn't since their mod tells them the resistance anwyay.

Even more, when I was living in NY, I had tons of duplicate and even triplicates of little gadgets, gizmos and measuring devices...I am kinda of a junkie for those things...buying one even knowing I have one at home...lol.. my wife is not too fond of them though...she had no idea what any of them do..

CONGRATULATIONS Atchafalaya...32 years... that's great. For me I just regret not having made the switch 10 years ago..... You are past the 100 day mark... that is great... Great community here for all of us......
