Hey everyone,

I've been working in a small office with about 10 people in pretty close quarters.

I've been working at this place now for about four months. There are a few people in the office sneak-vaping. I personally could care less, so long as it doesn't smell irritating or cause me any physical harm. About a week ago I woke up and my chest was bothering me, I took a deep breath and it wasn't pleasant. I went to the doctor and he said I was fine. Asked me if I smoked, vaped etc.

This morning I started thinking, am I feeling the effects of 2nd-hand vapers?

Hi and welcome,
The data on second hand smoke is all BS, so expect little to no potential harm from being among vapers.
OSHA SAFE LEVELS

All this is in a small sealed room 9x20 and must occur in ONE HOUR.

For Benzo[a]pyrene, 222,000 cigarettes.

"For Acetone, 118,000 cigarettes.

"Toluene would require 50,000 packs of simultaneously smoldering cigarettes.

Acetaldehyde or Hydrazine, more than 14,000 smokers would need to light up.

"For Hydroquinone, "only" 1250 cigarettes.

For arsenic 2 million 500,000 smokers at one time.

The same number of cigarettes required for the other so called chemicals in shs/ets will have the same outcomes.

So, OSHA finally makes a statement on shs/ets :

Field studies of environmental tobacco smoke indicate that under normal conditions, the components in tobacco smoke are diluted below existing Permissible Exposure Levels (PELS.) as referenced in the Air Contaminant Standard (29 CFR 1910.1000)...It would be very rare to find a workplace with so much smoking that any individual PEL would be exceeded." -Letter From Greg Watchman, Acting Sec'y, OSHA.

Cheers

You need to understand, we get trolled regularly. Rubber teeth. People with onions in their socks. It’s ridiculous.

So when someone like me, who has vaped over 10,000 mls of juice - and many here have done several times as much- it’s hard to believe anyone could think second hand vapor is a more likely cause of discomfort than the thousands of other things a person is exposed to during the course of a day.

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties, @Geter. As @Izan mentioned (and referenced), many studies to date indicate that it's highly improbable that what you're experiencing is related to the vapers in your office.

I'm not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV), but it's possible that maybe you're at the beginning stages of a cold, or maybe an allergic reaction to something or other.

I understand that your doctor said that you were fine, but I'm wondering what helped him come to this conclusion. Did he at do a chest x-ray, or any other tests that might have shined some additional light? I would hope so, but the practice of medicine has changed much recently, and I know sometimes they try to drive us in and out as quickly as possible. Given how you're feeling, I'd hope that translated to more than just a stethoscope.

If you do want to review a list of studies relating to the concept of second hand vapor, yes, we could definitely share some with you. I fear it might be overkill to just bomb you with too many though, at least at this juncture. Suffice it to say that there is a lot of evidence that the air quality surrounding vapers is on par with that were no vape exists. Some of the studies were even performed by the CDC (if my memory serves me correctly).

Regardless of all of this, I absolutely do hope that whatever it is passes quickly, and that you're feeling better very soon.

I, for one, would be interested in hearing how this plays out for you, since many of us have a vested interest in anything and everything related to vape.

All the best,
DP

It's not you... but if you knew how many new people we get here claiming all sorts of health issues because of vaping, you might understand our apathy. Besides, it's giving us a bad rep (bad enough all the media BS and mis-info going around) Big picture is it has caused us vapers a lot of hassle and grief (not to mention bans in some states) Don't take it personal... but I was also going to say "oh no, here we go again".

Follow me on this... others around you (overweight slobs) eating greasy pizza and sugar coated junk food. You go on an overeating/weight loss forum and claim that because of them you are getting acne and gaining weight. How do you expect them to react? Many good people here but it's been a rough year (2019) and our tolerance level is down to 0.

You are most definitely, without question NOT feeling any effects from second hand vapor. That's because there are none.

Been vaping for many years, never had that problem you are having (and I suspect neither are you. I wholeheartedly believe you were most likely paid or otherwise incentivized to come here to start this thread, given the rash of other threads similar to this).
