So, my joyetech 510 kit from cignot came 3 days ago.. and not a single analog since then!

I have to admit, I've used 4 portions of suns.. but it's american marlboro snus, barely any nicotine but helps those really BAD cravings.

I've been using these genuine joyetech cartomizers and really love them, easy to fill and perform great.. this setup is SO much better than that crappy XHale 02 from 7-11 I started with!

Question..

I'm looking to get a new pv soonish (then use the 510 for backups) and i'm looking at two things

an eGo passthru battery... seems like a great deal, can find for about $20 and lets you vape vape vape at home, disconnect and you have a 750mah eGo battery to last until you can find another USB port.. can support a LR or dual coil Carto

a madvapes boxmod.. the ones on sale for $18 right now... not much experience with boxmods but it's all I hear people using.. price gets higher once I factor in batteries/charger... buuut this will give me much more mileage than the eGo yeah?

Just curious what some people think

Actually, no....not necessarily much more mileage. It totally depends on the mAh rating of the batteries you use. If the eGo passthrough is 750 mAh, then it'll last around 6 hours or so between charges. But...you can charge it all the time if you're near electricity. With the box mod, it depends on what battery you put in it. Those use 14500 batteries (I'm pretty sure) with a mAh rating of anywhere from 600-900 mAh, so it's really not much different. Instead of plugging it in to recharge it, you'd just have to change the battery out...then re-charge the dead battery with a separate charger. The battery thing would be about a wash. The other difference, though....and this may count for you or not...the box mod will run at 3.7 volts where the eGo is about 3.2 volts. Just depends on whether or not that's important to you. After you buy 2 or 3 batteries and a charger, the box mod would end up being more expensive than the eGo passthrough.

If I were you, I would go with the box mod with 4 batteries and a charger. You'll find that the true 3.7V is alot better vape than the eGo. Even though there isn't much voltage between the 2, just that little bit higher voltage makes a world of difference. As far as total vape time, it depends on how heavily you vape. I can kill either an eGo 750mah battery or a 3.7V box mod in 3 hours flat but I also chain vape.

Another note, becareful running low resistance on eGo batteries. The MOSFET switches in them can't properly run low resistance therefore it kills the switch quicker than normal. On the box mod, low resistance can be run safely and properly so you get the full benefit of low resistance vaping.

One more thing you may want to consider is how rough you are with your PV. The box mods are made out of plastic. If you have a tendency to drop or abuse it, they could break fairly easily. But, they are a little more pocket friendly as long as they have an on/off switch.

One more benefit of the box mod is 14500 batteries are cheap. You can usually find packages of 2 for around $5 if you look at places like Deal Extreme. That means you can always have a freshly charged replacement battery ready.

Both are decent ways to go.
1. get the ego if you are happy with the vapor and TH you are getting with the 510 batteries as both are 3.2v regulated. The passthrough batteries are very convenient and 750mah is ok. (much better than 150mah or so with the 510) You can also explore ego related attachments. looks sleek. more rugged. Regulated to 3.2 so no drop off until dead.
2. get the box mod that will give better vapor at 3.7v. The batteries may offer very small gains in run time over the ego. (not much) Don't mind carrying an extra battery rather than a usb cable. Easy to carry in pocket. (on off switch) cheap to replace if you build your own for $9. Can run an IMR 14500 for dual coil or very lr cartos/atty's.
3. Find a new 3.7v ego/riva and run at 3.7v with an ego! I'm not sure if there are true 3.7v passthrough batteries yet, but if so thats where it's at.
edit:4. Oh man where is my mind. Get an epower for around $35 after batteries and charger. And have a great 3.7v regulated device that looks roughly like an ego. 1300mah batteries last a while. Great all around device. Con=can't use ego specific attachements. Runs all other 510 stuff great though.
edit 2: people do use dual coils on egos BUT I wouldn't. you will be pushing the ego battery past it's max discharge rate. This can lead to damage of the cell and a short lifespan (fewer charge cycles) 2ohm is as low as you want to limbo with an ego. Thats why the IMR high drain 14500 is a plus for the box mod. people run very low resistance cartos on devices that can't dish out the amps safely. They should be run on very high mah rated batts (18650) or IMR high drain's.

Say what you will about those crappy kits from 7-11 (I had an Njoy), they did get me started in vaping. It wasn't enough for me to quit, but I cut way down without even trying.

Think about getting some 24 or 36mg nic juice for those bad cravings too.

There's nothing wrong with an eGo/riva of any description; it's what got me off analogues. I'm not around USB ports all day, so a PT wasn't for me but it may be right for you. Personally, I wouldn't go below 2 ohms resistance on an eGo battery for the above mentioned reasons. Some have successfully used 1.5 ohms, some have not been so successful.

The box mods are an inexpensive way to try out a slightly higher voltage, giving more vapor and lots of mods use the 14500 batteries, so it's not a bad way to go.

I can be kinda clumsy at times and I've read that the plastic boxes are not the sturdiest option so I went with the Roughstack from MadVapes and it had served me well. It is a bit more expensive. It handles really LR atties just fine, although some of my juice does not. It has it's own quirks, the switch doesn't like getting juice in it, I've tweaked the positive connection to the center post but as far as durability goes :

Roughstack - 5
Asphalt - 0

+1 for the roughstack. By far the best bang for my money. Maxi and standard sizes runs 3.7 with 18350(protected or IMR) or 18650 (protected or IMR) , 5v with the 5v battery, 6v with two 16340 3v batt, or 2 rcr123a 3v lifepo, or any other battery you want with something for a spacer. If I could only have one device roughstack's it. Use it as my 6v dual coil device.

If you are going to upgrade, why mess with 3.2v to 3.7v PV's. Get a good 5 volt PV such as the GLV2 from: Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor or one of Ken's 5 volt box mods from: Box Mods. Or if you really want consistency, flexibility, outstanding battery life and throat hit, get a good variable volt PV.

Another advantage to PV's such as Ken's or the GLV2 is the $3.50 batteries are non-proprietary and can be recharged about 800 more times than small tube batteries.

Note: I've dropped my 5 volt box mod from Ken's about 50 times and it's never broken. Ken is well supported on ECF and stands behind his products.

In my opinion get you an 1100 passthough battery t-version and get you a tank atty and some carts. Less hassle. If you are looking for a good box mod a lot of people on this forum ( me included) have chosen the reo they have the mini the grand the woodvil and will soon be coming out with the mini woodvil /these things are a workhorse. They are a little expensive but it will be the last mod you will ever need unless you want to buy several of them like most of us do. I am saving to buy a second one. That is how much I like them IF you go this route you will need to get several 14500 aw irm batteries a charger and lr atty's and/or cartomizers and drip tips

Yeah some higher nic juice could help as well tho wanted to say smart move using SNUS in the meantime as well if you really don't want to smoke anymore. They are great for helping with the cravings especially as it's actual tobacco and thus contains all the other alkaloids instead of just nicotine.

The sit-and-go ego are rightfully becoming popular, though I'd probably go to $30 for a two battery Riva 510 kit. Basically the same battery duration as an eGo and you have two batteries. While this doesn't get you sit-and-go, as it uses a separate fast charger, the battery duration is decent and they generally run pretty well, especially when mated with a 2 ohm boge cartomizer.

(I'm just leery of single battery approaches -- if you already had an ego or riva kit, and wanted to pick up a sit-and-go as a backup, stellar, but there are battery failures sometimes. My personal "comfort zone" is three batteries, though you will have the 510 gear as backup.)

No opinion on box mods, though it's certain that many like them, they're economical and some are pretty rugged. I went to a variable voltage classic tubular mod, very happy with it.

He has the 510 batts for backup so the ego pass is viable. Might want to get a 1000mah pass though just so you know there is a full day of power there. 750 might not quite make it. My first box mod cracked after a couple months. I have another to put together but I have so many other devices laying around I probably won't. 14500's are not my favorite battery. Drop off very fast.
