My Google fu is weak, can't find a definite answer on this question. But when using SS for temp control, are you supposed to set temp limits closer to what was used with ni200 or do you go under like with ti? Or do you go higher?

I ran my ni200 between 410-460 depending on juice. Been trying out rayon so my wicking isn't spot on yet, but when using ss at 35w, sometimes temp will hover at 350 and other times will hit 480 and temp protection kicks in. What's a good temp range for this stuff?

What mod are you using? Does it have a ss tc mode? If it has, use the same temp settings you use with ni200 in ni200 mode. I haven't been able to use ss with tc on mods that only have ni200 mode.

Right.

I've used Ti in Ni mode, and SS in Ti mode, dropping the set temp 70-100F in each case.
It's a dodgy workaround... but it works. To a point, dry hit protection is probably borked.

But I wasn't able to get SS to work in Ni mode. Bottomed out on temp and still too hot.
Slightly. It could work on some equipment combos, or with SS 430 (I use 316) or if you like a much hotter vape than I.

It was just an experiment anyway and I haven't tried again.

probably Ni and IGNORE the gauge. Adjust to taste, because the mod will not READ the coil correctly. It should be able to regulate, you will be setting the heat to much LOWER than target heat. IDK, the numbers but say for 300 to get 400 and so on.

How I am reading this, seems contradictory. First saying setting it to the same as my ni200 coils, then following it up by saying run it lower than my nickel builds. And the mods wont regulate the temp besides limiting it to the threshold I set. I set my temp at 400, it will not pass that (except for the initial press with the ramp up if my power is set too high). It will not lower the temp once target it hit, only lower the power to stay at the temp.

I have a Cuboid, which has 316 mode, and the TCR modes. Ive tried it on SS mode and with TCR 92. If thats the case of running it at the same temps as nickel, then I would believe my wicking is holding me back if Im getting dryhits at anything above 400. Under that, and its never a satisfying vape to me.

Seeing as how most, if not all, recent mods are comming out with support for wires other than ni and ti, I wouldnt run SS temp in anything other than SS or a TCR mode.

This is why Im getting confused with it.
Nickel seems the temp ranges Ive seen people use are 400-470
TI ranges are 340-380
I am having a hard time dialing mine in. I dont see a target range to shoot for.
And I never see mention of SS temps. Like its some sort of giant personal secret that no one wants to share.

I tended to run SS just like I used to set Ni... mid 400s F.
It's Ti that I've seen being run higher... much higher.
Many posts of people running Ti up to the mid 500s F. Seems weird as Ti ramps up faster than most anything else I've read about. Or maybe that's why.

It does sound like wicking if you're getting all dry hits down around 400F.

Oddly... I've been playing around with using Celsius recently, because I can't do an on-the fly conversion in my head, so it keeps me from using temps I think I should and rather using what vapes well. I noticed last night... I've been working my way down more and more, even at/near 200 C (low of 190, currently around 210C).
That's way lower than I used to... works fine though.
Why did 440F-460F somehow become seen as the norm? o_O

Or I'm just being weird and haven't noticed yet. :p

As for the dry hits, it's most likely a wicking issue if you are getting dry hits before getting a good vape. What device are you using? maybe we can give some tips.

For temp, I'm not sure why you're worried so much about the actual temp number. As long as your TCR is good, you just need to start out around 400 and then bump the temp up until you get a satisfying vape. I'm not sure how good the SS TCR is on the cuboid. The SS mode on the rx200 is somewhere between 115 and 118 and works out great for me.
When I use SS coils on it, I just set it to 400 then bump it up till it's good. They end up in the high 400s just like nickel coils do.

Dry hits as in temp protection kicking in and low vapor production, or as in burnt hits. The former is most likely a wicking issue, and 400f is quite low so you should be able to increase the temp and get more valid. If the latter is the case, you most likely have some issue with the resistance being read wrong (even off by a little will have a noteable impact). You definitely shouldn't be getting anything close to burnt hits at 400f.

@absoluttalent You've probably already found your sweet spot but just saw this and wanted to add that I use a Cuboid in 316 mode and find that the Joyetech TCR setting of 0108 works pretty well. If I remember correctly, the temp was 180-200C. Frankly, I see little difference between that and in wattage mode. I've yet to find a TCR setting that outperforms what I get in wattage mode, anyway. If anyone has some better suggestions I'm ready to hear them.
