well i think i grew up in a different situation then most kids my dad is a manic depressive, and some days were good, like going fishing ,riding on the bike trails or being pushed around in a wagon and getting ice cream/icees. now of days there is a distances the disorder gets worse. i try to help by getting him wrestling books and dvds to get his mind off things but you got to take it as it is.my all time favorite time with him was seeing saw 2 and the movie was a gore fest and the movie was almost over and he stands up and starts freaking out lol i was like chill sit its almost over. and as we were walking out i thanked him for wasting his fathers day on me

I have two father's in my life that both have an amazing amount of patience with me, my husband and my father. I lived with my dad during my teenage years and looking back, I have no idea how he didn't kill me or at least didn't send me away to boarding school somewhere far away. My husband and I met 11 years ago and I have no clue how he has the patience to put up with me or our daughter, who is just like me! Both of them are amazing men.

I do not know who my biological father is, but I did have a grandfather as a father figure in my life, may he rest in peace. His loyalty was his greatest strength and he passed that on to me.

I'm tempted to say that he's still here as my father just turned 94, but his outstanding characteristic is his equanimity. In 59 years I have never heard him swear or raise his voice, not because he waited until the children weren't around, but because he just didn't do it. He taught me that it's possible to be calm, rational and nice, even in difficult situations. I haven't always absorbed this lesson well, but I do have an excellent role model to emulate.

(He is also very funny and spectacular with children. My sister and I still occasionally meet people who were his patients and they go into raptures about how much they loved going to the orthodontist because of him.)

My father's most respectable quality is his altruism. Without being a pushover he will willingly put the priorities of his family over himself. It's what makes him happy and it's what's helped him raise 3 respectable sons while keeping a phenominal relationship with his wife. I hope to grow up to be half the man he is.
