I recently purchased a couple 510 attys from VaporLeaf since they were really cheap. I guess they were cheap for a reason because damn, these things leak like crazy. Its not even like I'm flooding them. I drip two or three drops and it immediately starts leaking. Does anyone know any ways to keep an atomizer from leaking? Maybe a modification? Is the atomizer too tight of too loose on the battery? Any tips would be great, this is getting rather annoying.

hi, my 510 attys also tend to leak, and you're right it doesn't have to be flooded to happen. for the record mine are joye510 attys, so i'm not sure brand matters. i have to really keep the cartridge soaked-almost pooling, but not quite-then put 2 or 3 drops in the atty. this seems to get the best flavor without leaking much. before i started doing it this way they were leaking quite often. problem with this is i have to top it off many times during the day. also, i was laying mine on their side on a napkin, i read a post by someone who stated they are supposed to be upright.

it's odd, i try to do the same thing every time, sometimes it leaks alot, other times not at all. maybe someone else has a solution.

I always keep mine sitting upright, propped against something. They still leak, unfortunately. I almost always drip with my juices (with a delrin drip tip) but I do use cartridges for one flavor and that still leaks with this atomizer. The brand does matter I believe. The first atomizers I had came with my starter kit, the bridge was different than the bridge in the atomizers I bought from VaporLeaf (the VL 510 attys seem to have a larger bridge or something).

I'm running them on standard 510 batteries along with a passthrough (not sure of the passthrough's voltage). This really is becoming an issue now, though. I just went to vape off my passthrough and it was getting power but the atomizer wasn't heating up at all. I almost thought the atomizer died but when I looked at the battery, there was a really disgusting looking layer of dried up e-juice covering it and so the atomizer couldn't heat up at all. I've never had this happen with any batteries using the old atomizers.

Also I just thought I'd say I'm not bashing VaporLeaf in any way. Their prices are great but it seems the product might be of lower quality (my passthrough's button actually fell off the other day and I had to create a makeshift one). I recieved my package very quickly with no shipping issues or anything like that, so I have nothing against them.

Leaking:

out of the bottom connector side? or out of the cart/atty connection?

1) clean out those connections
2) Thicken juice with some VG if you are not sensitive to it
3) Don't use filler... just drip into the atty. 10 or 20 vapes, drip 2 or 3 drops, 10 or 20 vapes, drip,.....

Good tips; Simple and obvious steps a lot of people would overlook....I know I have in the past. This should be a sticky some place

Depending on where the leakage is happening, there might be a couple more things to do.

I'm having similar problems with a batch of LR's I got from China. Luckily, my Omega has drip rings, so most of the juice just gets sucked right back into the atty as I vape.

You might want to think about snagging an eGo battery and cone when you get a chance. The cone does a pretty good job of retaining juice on a leaky atty.

I am having great luck with the bulk 510 atty's I bought from Vapor Kings. They are genuine Joye... and a very good deal. (46.95 for ten)

That is a dang good deal. Too bad they don't stock LR atties or I'd be on it in a heartbeat.

I'm having trouble with leaky atomizers on mine, as well. I do not have a 510. This seems to be a problem with many different brands and types. It leads me to wonder how such an obvious design flaw could have been overlooked, when a simple air channel leading halfway up the atomizer would do the trick. Of course, cleaning the atty does help with the current leak, but does not prevent future leaks. I wish there were some way to demand a shift in manufacturing.

Not really; because that way you would be channeling air away from the heating coil so no atomizing would take place. This is the design behind traditional cartos but the coil is vertically placed.
As for the leaking phenomena I suggest you read my post "Ten Commandments to Direct Dripping" or similar name in the General Discussion sub-forum as it certainly covers both this issue and basics...
