By "volcano mini," I'm going to assume the you mean the Volcano MAGMA (i.e., the 510). And by "carts," I assume you mean cartos (i.e., cartomizers). Both the 306 and the 510 cartomizers (and atomizers) have the same threading and therefore are fully compatible. Since the atty portions have a different structure, the feel of the vape is different. Each is appealing and has many afficionados.

Those differences have no impact on battery life. What does have an impact is the resistance of the carto/atty, whether 510 or 306. Standard resistance (~2.3 ohms) 510 or 306 cartomizers work just fine on the skinny 180 mAh 510 batteries (i.e., your MAGMA batts). What will give you problems are LR (low-resistance) cartomizers, especially those at ~1.5 ohms. The popular Boge 2.0 ohm cartomizers might be OK. But they and lower resistance cartomizers are intended for the 650+ mAh fat batts (e.g., Volcano's INFERNO aka eGo) and mods.

If you are happy with the performance of standard resistance cartomizers (510 or 306) and your relatively low mAh MAGMA batteries, great! Otherwise, consider a "fat batt" (which are not really that fat), perhaps the best deal for which is the Riva-510 from Liberty-Flights. A full kit is $30-36, depending on battery features, carrying case, and atomizers or cartomizers included. I recommend either of the two "Carto Deluxe" kits.
