510 Charging Question

I just received my first 510 today from InnoVapor.

With the Intro Kit, I got the USB charger. I also ordered an extra battery.

Right out of the box, I screwed on one of the batteries for charging and the LED was slowly flashing between between red and green (about 5 seconds on each color).

After watching the Intro video on the InnoVapor website, it seems that I should be getting a solid red if it is charging and a solid green if it is charged so I figured something was faulty and decided to try the other battery. I got the same results: alternating between red and green.

Is this normal, signalling that it's nearly charged, or is there likely a problem with my USB charger and/or batteries?

Thanks, in advance.

I also have a second, non-related question. The only other e-cig I have experience with is a SmokeStik (4081 model, I believe). SmokeStik changed the chemistry of the liquid that comes in their cartridges and it was no longer satisfactory to me. This prompted me to finally order the 510.

While waiting for the 510 to arrive, I bought some liquid from a store here in Houston. I tried direct dripping a couple of drops on the atomizer with a completely empty mouthpiece (popped out the cartridge and filler entirely since the liquid sucked).

I am finding this to work better than even the original cartridges I bought from SmokeStik (before the change in liquid quality).

My quesiton is, will I damage the 4081 by dropping liquid right on the atomizer and not even using the filler and cartridge inside the mouthpiece? If not, it has definitely made smoking the 4081 a much better experience. (I still haven't tried my 510 as I haven't gotten past the charging issue I brought up in the OP).

Thanks again, in advance.

That depends on if you are using a 103 manual battery or the automatic batts that comes with the RN4081. The automatic battery is not sealed and juice can run down into the switch and gum it up. However, I do have a 4081 and drip all of the time with the automatic battery. I have ruined a couple using 3 drops but, I have been using 2 drops only and vape it until there is no juice left on the atty. Since doing this I have not messed up a 4081 batt in over a year. If I use 3 drops the juice gets into my batts. I have also noticed that if I cut my liquid a little with VG (Vegetable Glycerin) I have less problems with juice running into my batts and the vapor production is much much better. The throat hit is much better too.

when i charge my 510 through usb, it will be a continuous red light with little flickers of green to show its charging. when its done it will be a continuous green light with little flickers of red, maybe alternating every 5 seconds...
if yours is alternating between colors with a couple second delay between, i'd say its fully charged.
just my experience.

I have had this problem when the battery is screwed too tightly in the charger. For some reason, we all believe the tighter the connection, the better contact. In my experience, that is not teue with the 510 both on the xharger and on the atty. You want a seal but not an overly tight seal. The original charge on each battery should be 8 hours on and vape 20 minutes and then 1 hour charge. I have tried alternate methods of initial charge ie: just until green and other variartions and battery life is definately equivalent to the recommended charge rime per instructions. If this suggestion does not produce a fully charged battery, peerhaps rthe xharger is the problem and you should contact the seller for an exchange. The 510 is a good PV and is worth working out the kinks. Good Luck

Thanks for all the responses.

It's been charging over 8 hours now and it still alternates colors but it's mostly green. I tried to make sure it's not screwed in tightly so I don't think that's the problem. It just doesn't seem like it should be doing this so I sent an e-mail off to InnoVapor describing the problem. I'll see how they respond and post what I learn for anybody else who may be experiencing a similar issue.

Based on what Magnetbox posted, I'm going to assume it may be charged and try it out.

Thanks again for the responses.

The 510 and 801 pen chargers do that red=discharged battery, red/green flash=partially charged battery, green = fully charged. However, I've never had one flash for 8 hours. You may have a bad battery or charger.

I have dripped the 4081 with no problems for a few weeks now. Great vape! I use JC (very thin) juice to fill the cartridge, then direct drip 2 to 3 drops of very thick on the atty bridge.

That gets me better vape than just topping off cartridges in my 510, 901 or 801.

Yet another question for anybody who can help:

I haven't figured out the LED issue yet but it seemed to have charged up fine.

I had unfilled cartridges with the kit I ordered. I initially soaked about 5 or 6 drops of ECOpure Pure Max into the filler and a couple of drops directly onto the atomizer. I got a few of the best hits I've ever gotten off an e-cig. Phenomenal amount of vapor, outstanding taste and a perfect throat it. I was pretty psyched.

Unfortunately, I suddenly got a super harsh hit that made me nearly gag and dried the heck out of my throat. I added a couple more drops to the atomizer and made sure the catridge was still topped off. I then got several more of those insanely harsh hits in a row and eventually had to put the thing down for about 15 minutes and chug some water.

I haven't been able to get it working like those first few hits again. I've read about the primer taste in other threads but I don't think that was the problem since I never read anything about severe harshness.

Has anybody experience this? If so, what might be the cause?

Also, after the initial charge, how long does it typically take to charge a 510 battery (I assume they are standard batteries since they came with the InnoVapor starter kit)?

Thanks once again, in advance.

My 801 does the same thing when fully charged. Flashes between green and red. I have found that when it flickers between the two it is actually fully charged. The 510 only takes between an hour to 1 1/2 hours to charge. The throat hit could be a couple things with the 510. I have foung that If I use a cart and overfill it I get harsh hits that take a while to get through before it smooths out. The other thing is that you may need to reduce the nicotine level. The higher the nic the harsher the throat hit. If you are having a burnt tast the cart is to dry. Also your atty will preform more consistantly after it gets broke in. Some times a new atty is harsh for a day or two of moderate use. Some flavors are harsher than others as well.

The 510 should be charged for 12 hours on the first charge. Approx. 4 hour charges should do the trick after that. However, I usually charge it for about an hour after it stays green. BTW, good choice going with the 510. I love my 510, but the batt life is just too short for me, that's why I have ordered a 510 protege.
As to your ? about throat hits and vapor production, here is my 2 cents. It depends a bit on the liquid used. I haven't tried Ecopure, but you might have better luck with another liquid. Also, I wouldn't recommend your method of dripping. When one of your carts is empty, pull out the fill and throw it in the trash. Then drip 2-3 drops on the atty, this is how I get the best hits. Sooner or later, try a cart mod like the PTB filler. It seems to me like you're probably flooding the atty which would affect vapor production and cause leaking.

mmccormick;

On my 510, with a USB charger plugged into my computer, I noticed since the beginning that it will flicker between green and red. The more time the battery stays on the charger--the longer the light stays green and the shorter time it flickers red........sort of like a count down clock.

I've never let it go solid green before I take it off the charger.

hmm, for that harshness you are describing, it could be that some fill is getting stuck in your bridge...
happens to me all the time cause im constantly tampering with the filler when i top off. it gives a disgusting burnt plastic taste and a really harsh burny throat irritation.
check your atty for some strands of polyfill.

It sounds like it may be one of the last 2 things suggested.

Man, I was smoking a 4081 for 2 months and this is my first experience with anything else.

Those first few hits were phenomenal compared to anything I experienced with the 4081.

I am going to see if I can find some filler stuck on the atty and make sure I don't let it run to hot.

Thanks for the help, folks.
