Howdy,

I should be getting my 510 today. Is there a post or video that shows how to do the inital setup out of the box? I have searched but didn't get any specific hits back. I want to make sure I do things right when breaking in the unit. For instance, how to put the right amount of fluid on the atomizer so as not to flood it. Also, I think it is coming with 2 pre-filled carts. Can I use those same carts once empty to add my own juice or do I need to buy new blank ones instead.

Thanks!

Pre-filled carts can be reused many times. Just take the filler out with tweezers, rinse it in water, pat it dry with a paper towel, put it back into the cart, drip 7-10 drops into the "new" cart (until it looks like a slushy) and you're back in business. New unfilled blank carts are very cheap to buy--usually about $2-3 for a 5-pack.

Pro tip (from a 3-day "veteran"): Go to Walgreen's, get a spritzer of hand sanitizer (costs less than 2 bucks). Remove the pump thingy, rinse out the bottle and smoosh the cap down on the threads. Now you've got a case that fits your fully assembled 510.

Then take the stem from the pump, rinse it out (run it under water, put some in your mouth and blow the water through the stem), and cut a piece that just barely fits inside the cartridge (should be about 2mm below the top). Cut one end on the bias (like french cut beans) and stuff that end down the side of the cartridge filler so the slanted side faces in.

Once you do that (it's called the "straw mod" because you usually use a small straw like a coffee stirrer), you can fill the cartridge full of liquid (staying away from the tube) and it won't get trapped on a bubble of air. You can put 12-15 drops in the cart easily, which will saturate the wick nicely and keep it going for a long time (at least as long as the battery lasts).

Later on, you can buy either unfilled carts (with the fluffy batting but no liquid), or empty carts and do the PTB mod (Lipton pyramid tea bags, emptied, rolled up and stuffed in the cart as a wick).

Don't forget that brand new atty's have a "primer" on them and you will get a slightly strange taste for a little bit while this burns off. Some try to clean the primer off before use, but I tend to just "vape my way through it". Just don't let the primer give you the wrong idea as to what this will finally taste like.

And generally speaking, the vapor production of a new 510 will continue to improve over the first day or so. Hang in there.
