I started vaping last month and quit smoking in favor of vaping...yay! I have been using a 510 starter kit, which was a good recommend from this forum. BUT I am not fully satisfied with my vaping experience, and I believe it can be better. Here's my issue: When I inhale, the vapor doesn't feel substantial enough. It feels too smooth or weak in my throat and lungs. I am hoping for suggestions on what accessories, parts (ideally adapting my 510) or e-juice changes I can try to get a more intense feeling while vaping.

Some general info about my options: I am on a budget; consider me poor. If adapting my 510 to something is cheaper, then I'd like to go that direction. Most of my e-juice has had 0mg nicotine so far, but I've ordered more with 18mg of nicotine and am excited to try it. My e-juice maker is Grassy Green, and I've been using 70/30 PG/VG.

Thanks in advance for your help and for making this forum awesome!!! Any advice is welcome and appreciated!

Hi and Welcome,

Best advice for a 510 auto/manual battery user:
IMHO
They are cheap and work very well.

Stepping up to a higher level of nicotine will make a HUGE difference. When people say "throat hit", they mean that warm, harsher sensation that we used to get when smoking cigarettes. Higher nicotine levels in your juice=harsher throat hit. The rule of thumb is 18mg=about a pack of full flavors. Doing that will help with the smooth cool feeling as well as the feeling in your lungs, and not to mention your cravings.

The ohm your atomizer, clearomizer, cartomizer you are using and the voltage you are running it at makes a big difference. Would you happen to know what ohm your tank is at and what volts you are running at?

Welcome and CONGRATS akimiko,

Yes your vaping experience can be....better. But that is a relative term...The 510 starter kit can be adapted, but only so far. More nic in your liquid and the higher PG % will increase the "kick". The best next step is an eGo battery and tank (cart, clero) type set up. The vape experience only gets "better" from there.

An EVOD and Ego Twist or something like that can be had for under 50$ and it will be a much better vape than a cigalike if that's what you're vaping with now.

^Exactly...^

What you didn't mention is what you used to smoke, and how much in a day. Nicotine is the primary cause of throat hit, and Propylene Glycol percentage boosts that hit.

Then what Chadsmo says... your device can give you some more control of the level of hit you get. An Ego Twist/Vision Spinner gives you the control to dial in the intensity of throat hit as well as the intensity of flavor.

The Kanger EVOD is one of the most reliable, and easiest clearomizers to fill and maintain... and they can be had reasonably cheap, and compared to several packs of cigs per week.

2 Spinners, 2 EVOD's, a five-pack of replacement heads (or 2... 5-1.8, 5-2.5 will give you a good range to work with) and you will be set for months...

Good luck and don't look back!

Start with as many different type of resistance coils in the kanger clearomizer Izan recommended. A lower resistance will drain your battery faster, but it will produce more vapor. The lower you go, the warmer it will get. Try that first, since you're on a budget. If you end up getting a new battery, since you're on a budget skip the non-variable voltage batteries. You're getting pretty much the same experience already. A variable voltage battery will help you adjust it to your liking, and you can just settle on one resistance, rather than adjusting your coil's resistance to produce higher wattages/power output..which equals to more vapor.

Nicotine is the main source of throat hit. PG will feel harsher than VG at the same nicotine level, but even 100% PG has virtually no throat hit at 0mg nicotine.

Thanks Giant Squid. You are likely the most intelligent creature certainly in the water, but also across the land. With one small exception...perhaps :) . I haven't yet received my 18mg juice, but I did purchase a lost cost Mistic rechargeable with nicotine, and it hits the spot much better! So thank you.

Hello Jester!
My 510 has a 3.7v battery, but truly when I press the button, it drops to about a 3.4 for actual vaping. My atomizer has somewhere between 2 to 2.5 ohms; I apologize, but I can't be more specific without using an ohm counter, which I don't own. I would love to hear your take on a better voltage and ohm option, as I would prefer to keep my nicotine level low--probably not all the way down at 0mg, but low enough to feel healthier.

I've also found natural flavors to offer an increased throat hit. I use 24, but with my naturals I use 18. That even seems like it's harsher than the 24 of other flavors.

Thanks to inksane and his/her mental kin, UnclePsyko, I've got the tip that mint and cinnamon are good TH options. I've never been fond of menthols, but cinnamon sounds nice. Any other flavors you'd say that fall under the "natural" kind? Perhaps just tobacco?

Also suspectK, I got your later post about trying different coils' resistance, then switching to a VV battery. I think from the response I got, I'll probably go straight to the VV battery and save money on the coil testing (unless you think it's an important step that I should not skip). I'm guesstimating that using a VV batter requires a different type of device and charger than what I have. I've gotten recommends on the eGo series, eGo Twist, EVOD, Vision Spinner with a Kanger T4 or Protank. Do you have a take on which option, and/or where to find the stuff at a good price? Your advice has been truly helpful. Thank you!

Thank you RedNBlack. I'm super excited about quitting smoking! I get your point about adapting only going so far. From your suggestions and other responses, I think the next best step will be to a VV device and some tank system, probably Kanger. I'll keep you posted on how much better my experience gets as I move up in the world.

Yep, UnclePsyko is the bomb! I can't thank you enough, and Chadsmo! I smoked Marlboro lights, usually 100's, around half a pack a day for three yearsish. So not a real heavy smoker, but still a smoker. BTW, Chadsmo, it's kind of silly, but I'm just curious if you happen to look like Eminem or whether that's a picture of him. The picture with your profile--sometimes I'm sure it's Eminem and others I'm sure it's not.

Click where it says Kanger T4 just above the pic, it's a link. And if you want to upgrade the hardware, you can't go wrong with these, and there both under $50:
DV eGo-T Starter Kit - Stainless - 900mah
Kanger eVod Kit - Stainless

Thanks BardicDruid! I know under $50 is a good price, but I'll have to wait a bit to make the purchase. I'm starting my own company right now, so cash flow could be a lot better. If only I could fast-forward five years (of workaholicism). Still, you've given me a great place to go to in, hopefully, the near future.

I think I've graduated to a higher level of member now...yay! Can you tell me how I get one of those quit-smoking-days-and-money-saved trackers/banner on my posts? If I'm able to do that at my young ECF status.
