It seems to vary... could be quality control issues, how they are used (higher volt mods, holding button down too long and heating them up too much), over-cleaning, etc.

Personally, I have 3 510 atties that have all been in use for almost 2 months so far with no problems, all used every day by 3 different people. We don't let them burn more than 5 secs at a time, no dry burns, no cleaning, occasional blowing out with mouth from the battery side. Incidentally, these are the "newer" longer lasting atties I got from Innovapor. Word got out that they were knock-offs made by a 3rd party company and some people loved them, others hated them. But apparently so many people complained that IV decided to drop them due to too many complaints. Shame too, because they are work horses and I have had no problems. But then, others have used the original 510 atties with no problems too. They are sort of hit or miss it seems.

Others will chime in I'm sure with their experiences.

Titan atties are no where near as reliable as 401s.
However The 501 is a different beast

On the whole If you are buying a kit make sure you get a warranty period as the 3 of the 4 atties I have had die so far died within 1 week. the other attie that died is 3 months old
yes get spares, but sounds like user error to me or just bad luck

I have ordered 40 510 atty's and no doa's. My wife killed 2 in 4 mos and I threw my first one away after 3 mos because a new one worked so much better. They are quite durable and I highly recommend them. I dropped them off roofs and off ladders and they keep on ticking

I've been using pretty much one 510 atty exclusively since I started. Look at my sig for reference on timeframe :)
I bet its pretty lame, I have a good few titan (510)atties just got another yesterday!

Life span of the 510 attie
week one - if it is not DOA will take about a 3 days to a week to get up to full power. (some die at this point)
week two - if it is still alive it will be pretty good, it will still be a little light on the draw (smartie tube syndrome)
week three to four - optimum just about perfect
weeks five to eight - starts to get harder to draw even when cleaned vapour and hit start to diminish
week eight onwards the attie never dies compleatly but slowly gets less enjoyable eventualy you replace it and start all over again.

I have no atties left from my July batch all replaced

Over 4 months on mine, and haven't lost a single one! Vapor is still good on the original 4 I bought.

If someone wants the 510 kit at the best price, get a 'no box' kit from Cignot your Midwest Electronic Cigarette store. for only $35. At that price, worth getting 2 of them so you have a back up charger and 4 complete 510s to use. Also, a PCC is a good idea for charging on the go!!
