Ok, this is the third 5v regulator that I've tried and I'm still having no luck getting it to be 5v!

I'm now using Texas Instruments' regulators. I have been using two 3.0v cr123s. When I test the voltage, I get 6.6v, connected to the regulator it's 6.0v not 5.0v. I noticed that there are 3.7v cr123's ... should I be using two 3.7v instead of two 3.0v? I thought perhaps this is why the regulator is not bringing it down to 5.0v.

I know this may sound crazy, but have you tested your Voltmeter against a known voltage / powersupply, like maybe a computer power supply or USB port? I'm wondering if your Voltmeter isn't approx. 1 volt out of calibration.

Like Marctwo said, it would be helpful to post which regulator you're using, and maybe even a sketch of the circuit you are currently using.

Which TI regulators? PTR08060W by any chance?

The 3V cells should be fine although I've only used 3.7V cells.

What value resistor are you using for the adjust? Are you sure you're taking it from V- and not Vin or Vout?

The TI regulator I'm using is: UCC383TDKTTT-5G3. I'm not sure what you mean by "value resistor".

See if this is how you have it setup.
