I bought a 5v USB passthrough from electro vapors.

The specs say - .DC5V +/-0.5V @ DCS5 00mA +/-50mA

Does that mean I have to run it @ 500mA only? I have my iPhone USB/wall plug in rated @ 5v /1A and a generic car plug in/USB rated @ 5v 750mA.

Would either of these work or wreck my passthrough? What happens if you're running higher amps than it's rated for?

Cheers,

A true passthrough, one without an inline battery (like the various 510 and ego sit-and-go models), takes more than 500 mA to operate. Recommended is a USB with 2000 mA (2 A) rating. Likewise it's recommended to use a dedicated USB power supply, whether a car cig lighter adapter or a plug-in AC 2A PS, to avoid the risk of frying something else if you have a PT failure (a short).

This is just Ohm's Law. USB outputs somewhere on the order of 4.7 - 5V. An atomizer or cartomizer is typically somewhere in the 2.5 - 3.5 ohm range. The current needed on the USB = Voltage/Resistance. For a 5V USB, 3 ohm atomizer, 5/3 = 1.67 A (1670 mA) needed.

(Real low resistance atomizers are not recommended, since you go beyond the power supply's rating and/or fry the atomizer [blow it out].)
