Hello,

Looking for some recommendations and help. This seems to be happening to a couple people. I'm using an 80/20 mix juice and having a heck of a time getting it to wick through Blue Foam. I've tried different shapes and sizes with the same results. It wicks well at first and then nothing with about 1/2 of the foam still soaked.

Any suggestions?

I'm dripping at the moment.

David

Vappor, tried the BFD.. no success. First got dry in a couple puffs, and then after a very slight trim of the foam, got a flooded atty.

Going to try the 2% water or vodka suggestion from MaxUT tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the tips so far, folks.

FWIW the dilution with Vodka is working for now. I knew it was not the atty because I was able to switch immediately to dripping and that worked. Dripping was what saved me yesterday. It did not dawn on me that diluting the juice would work. :)

Thanks for your help everybody.

Dusty-- glad it's working for you.

I wasn't satisfied with blue foam because it didn't work well with thick liquids and also seemed to have a bit of an off taste.

I started using AquaClear foam because it has larger cells. It does work well with thicker liquids, but has to be compressed more when using thin ones or it will leak badly. The taste is okay.

Lately I've switched to Fluval 104/105. Its cell size is midway between blue and AC foam and it's easiest of all to cut with a sharp razor blade. Using a DSE901 cart ("D" type), I will typically refill with 6-8 drops of juice when it begins to run dry. This is the best filler I've found so far.

All these foams need to be compressed somewhat when they're inside the cart. The trick is to discover the right amount for your equipment, liquid and vaping style.

I would estimate that I'm compressing the foam by about 20%. My DIY mixes are usually the same or a little thicker than PG liquids.

Yes, I am playing around with diluting with vodka. My Filler is just about a millimeter thicker than the carts actual cavity, so don't think it's that. Thinning it has helped but it's not yet there. If I let it sit for a while, it seeps through but not if I am chain vaping. I do think I am on the right track though.

Thank you for all the responses.

Thanks for starting this thread Dusty, I 've been having the same problem since I got a few bottles of 70 percent VG juice. It helped some when I started using a slightly narrower piece of the blue foam, so it wasn't so compressed. But still, with a new piece of foam the first drop just sits on top til I stir it around a bit with a dart tip or bent paper clip. Once that first drop goes down, the rest follow pretty well. I may try the dilution solution to see if that helps wicking back into the atomizer. It doesn't seem to use up all of the juice before the dry draw taste occurs.

Anyway, I hadn't thought about adding water or vodka. Thanx to MaxUT for that suggestion.

Btw, I won't be ordering juice with that much VG again.

I had the same problem. At least, that's what I am blaming it on. I am also under the impression that VG clogs up the atty much faster. And yes, I blow out 510 atty's regularly and have cleaned them as well. It seems like the 35% VG I was using, which was great on a fresh atty, would tend to goop up the atty to the point of zero functionality.

I'm using the blue foam filler for my mega XL attys/carts and having similar wicking issues. So water/alcohol with my DIY juice will thin it out, thats cool! I'm wondering what's better, water or alcohol? Also, can you feel the affects of alcohol and what would be the max before it started messing with the vapor production. Since I got my mega cylinder atomizer in the mail I haven't gone back to reg 510's. The 510 mega XL from HappyVapor seem way different from the reg 510's. Even If I have to top off with thick juice, I'm still able to get 10 drops down there :) I also cut the blue foam (AC) 1mm larger than my mega cart. I can't find grain alcohol in BC either, so I'll have to use vodka for now. Thanks for the info!

I have vaped 100% VG liquids and 100% PG liquids extensively and some 70%/30% and 50%/50% PG/VG using BFD mods and had no problems in 510s. The key is using a straw of some type to provide support for the blue foam against the atty bridge. A full length foam may not wick as well as a shorter length with a drink stirrer type straw. On the Ego Mega cylinder and cone, I use a standard drinking straw cut to length so that the entire assembly is just up the the lip of the cart.

I haven't tried a spring mod, but have been thinking about it. A cone shaped spring with the large end at the top under the foam might just be a good mod. Right now I'm finding polyfill cut to the right width and full length is working best in my Ego Mega cylinder type B atty.

Here's one I use in the mega cone atty. For the 510, a coffee stirrer straw works just fine.
