801 Atomizer

I've been watching a lot of youtube video reviews on the 801... and almost all of them go on and on about how amazing the 801 is for smoke, draw, and throat hit. Exact reason I bought an 801.

I do notice there is a bit more smoke from the 801 than the 901, but I find the draw to be extremely wimpy (like sucking air through a thick mcdonalds straw), there is no heat at all (vapor feels cold) and I get no throat hit whatsoever (with 24mg juice/carts).

So... what am I doing wrong? Are all of these people using 36mg? Is there a trick to warming up the 801? Is it my atomizer that sucks? (5 from best e-cig), all work exactly the same (2 holes).

NeHe--I am vaping a BEST BE112 right now and am getting a nice kicking throat hit with a very warm vapor stream--I would suggest changing e-liquid vendors as you are not going to find to many people who do not like their BEST atomizers--you could also have weak batteries so check that out too-------------Sun

Hello, I have had an 801 with the same too-easy draw that you are talking about and another that was perfect. For the too easy draw have a look at the end of the atomizer where the battery screws in. There are air holes around the inside of the cart tube joining the thread that takes the battery, 4 of them by the sounds of it. Try blocking one of them with some blue-tac or something like that. then another if the draw is still too fast for your liking. If satisfied then make it permanent with a tiny bit of super glue.

Also look inside your atomizer, do you see a massive wire mesh thingy sticking out about 1cm (its upside down V shaped)? The new DSE801 atomizers have a bigger bridge, this is supposed to be an improvement but I don't like it. Also see if this big bridge is pushing the cart material deep into the cart. To help this I dug a hole in the centre of the cart material for it to push into.

Finally: 801's have a large amount of wire wool which holds liquid below the heating coil, this must be saturated before it will vape well, sort of a breaking in period. I think sometimes this doesn't 'wet' well with liquid when you first use them. Try to simmer the atomizer in water for an hour (or 50/50 water white vinegar) rinse and dry before using and give it a good few drops straight in the atomizer.

My 801 atomizer took a week to really start cranking, my RN4072 is putting out unbelievable vapour now at 6 weeks old! It has the old style smaller bridge, two holes on the atomizer and I have cleaned it every week including burning off residue using a 5V DC power supply.

I find the penstyle atomizers with too many air-flow holes too easy to draw, they cool the vapor too soon and getting a decent hit can be difficult on some atomizers without using a manual switch. The only thing you can do is experiment with reducing the airflow to see if that helps. As rlorange said, it is a good first step to try and block of one or more of the holes where the atomizer threads onto the battery. You might also try putting some adhesive tape partially arount the barrel where the atomizer and battery connect. Sun is also spot on with his comments about smoking juice having some impact on throat hit and vapor production.

Well, I know it's not the batteries because I'm using a USB passthrough. It could be the atomizer. I noticed it's a fairly large bridge (on all the atomizers I bought). As for the holes... it's definitely a two hole... I can see the notches by the threads. The material is not being pushed up, and it's getting good vapor. It's just very cold vapor (it actually feels cold on my tongue).

I'll have to try another liquid I guess. Have been using Johnson Creek with it. And although I like the Johnson Creek flavors, packaging, etc. I don't find that any of the flavors are all that strong. Chocolate mint... don't taste the mint. Original Tobacco (I use it to extend the life of other flavors, no real taste to me).

Thanks for the info. Now if only customs would let my wicked juice through...

sigh

* would it be a stupid idea to try pushing the bridge down (closer to the heating element)? Can it be moved or is it fairly solid?

If vapor is wimpy and cool, and you feel little or no heat with fingers on tube where atomizer is located, then you might just have a flooded atomizer. Try holding your unit horizontal and puffing repeatedly on the tube without the cart installed until vapor feels/tastes hot. Alternatively, try blowing out the vaporizer from the battery end to remove excess fluid.
