I have been describing in various threads that a .9% sterile saline solution contains "a scant 1/4 teaspoon of salt in 1000mls". That amount is correct for 100 mls, not 1000 mls! (I misplaced the decimal point in my head).

I was corrected in another thread (thank you VERY much yo han!). I just weighed 9 grams of our 'house salt' (Himalayan pink), and 9 grams of that measures approximately 2 teaspoons.

I'm sorry if I misled or confused anybody - and even more sorry if I caused anyone to mess up their juice!

Thanks all!

"we2rcool" are two, married (to each other :::grin:::), fifty-something groovy-cool old hippie soulmates (well, one of us is an old hippie, the other was only 10 when Woodstock happened...but has the right spirit, just the same). The other is about to be 'sixty-something' real soon.

My brain isn't working right for math today but i want to try this

If i want to try this in my DIY. How much would I mix with say a 10 ml of pg for use like i would diluting em. And how much to put in a mix.

I mean like if i put 1/4 tsp in 10 ml would i then use say 10% in my mixes or 1%?

What we use is a .9% saline solution...at 9/10% in our juices (but we use VG -which we prefer diluted, so the weaker saline solution is perfect for us).

Common DIY solutions call for using much smaller percentage (say 1-2%) of a much stronger solution (a 10% dilution is common).

If you wanted to make a 10% solution, you'd use 1% salt and 9% fluid. For a 10ml bottle, that would be 1 gram of salt diluted into 9ml of fluid.

[Edit: 1 gram of our table salt is approximately a 'very heaping' 1/8th teaspoon, or a very scant 1/4 teaspoon]

It would be best to use USP sodium chloride, rather than any kind of typical "salt" (I'm finding it in tablets on Amazon, but haven't yet ordered any to try). If you're going to use regular salt, be sure it is NOT 'sea salt' (with all manner of impurities/minerals that will clog/ruin coils), and that the salt you use is as pure as possible (no iodine, no additives, no anti-caking agents, etc).

I've read that salt doesn't dissolve well in VG or PG (but don't know if it's true) - so you might want to dissolve the salt in ?ml of water first (and then add PG to equal 9ml of fluid).

Then use that solution at .5%-1% for starters (??? - where you start is up to you).

Wethinks you'll love how it helps your flavors to *pop*!

Good thing you're bringing this up.
I also use VG only so I was already used to putting 10% distilled water in my mixes so I've replaced that with saline.
But for PG mixers adding 10% would make the solution way too thin. Using a 10% saline solution would indeed be better but this makes it harder to be accurate when mixing small quantities. You'd have to add just 0.1ml for a 10ml mix.
