Gosh, sometimes we ECFers over-abbreviate (not just you).
Various PVs (e.g., DSE905 and Joye/Janty Stick) have had second and third versions. Most frequently, I've heard the
Prodigy V2 referred to as simply V2, so I will
assume that is what you mean. As for "801", I feel much more comfortable with my assumption that you are referring to the
DSE801 (or, at least, compatible penstyle), rather than the
M801.
Some of the following will be applicable, even if my assumptions are incorrect. However the comments about voltage will not.
Now to your first question...
- Some e-liquids and flavorings taste better at 5V (e.g., Prodigy) than at 3.7V (e.g., regular 901 battery). And vice versa. Perhaps your customized mixture is best at 3.7.
- Higher voltage (or a low-resistance atty) requires more e-liquid and more frequent dripping than 3.7V. For example, I drip 4 drops (frequently) in my LR 801 atty vs. 3 drops (less frequently) in my regular 801.
- You may simply prefer the 901 atty over the 801 atty. I get the cleanest, least distorted taste from the 510, although I very much like the "richness" (and throat hit) that the penstyle atty imparts (to my taste buds). For me, the 901 is bland. That is not an "expert" opinion, just one person's taste buds. [Although I will stand behind my statement about individual differences as an expert observation.

As for the difference between the Prodigy and the eGO:
- First and foremost is voltage. Like your regular 901, the eGO is 3.7V (less actually). As mentioned above, the Prodigy is 5V, yielding a more intense experience (flavor, vapor, and throat hit).
- Second (or maybe even first) is the atomizer. The eGO uses the the 510 atty (aka "the vapor machine", at least that's what I call it). The Prodigy can use the 801, 901, or 510 (or Kr8 cartomizer), but your experience with it has been with the 801 atty.
- The difference in their appearance is obvious.
- Both devices have similar mAh (i.e., puffs per battery charge).
Recommendation: Buy a 510 atty, 801-to-510 adapter, and 801-to-901 adapter, e.g., from
LiteCigUSA or
MadVapes. Using the same e-liquid, try each of your three atomizers on the Prodigy and see which you prefer.
- If you like any of them at Prodigy's 5V, stick with the Prodigy and buy more of that atty.
- If you prefer the 510, but it is too intense, sell the Prodigy and buy an eGO (or the new Riva: less expensive and slightly higher mAh).
- If you prefer the 901, but it is too intense, sell the Prodigy and buy a 3.7V mod.
- Based on your recent experience, you are unlikely to prefer the 801. But if you do, follow the above pattern.
