on my DID genesis rba the wick hole is 3.5mm. my ss mesh wick is rolled up just as wide to fill up the wick hole. its also hollow and short so when i tilt-to-vape it acts like a straw to feed more juice to the coils.

when i have the fill hole plugged with a screw, and take a vape, some juice gets sucked out with the inhale through the wick. after a few chain vapes my top deck is flooded with juice as i hear the air hole dribble.

when i have the fill hole open, it doesn't flood.

time for a rebuild and problem solve. since the ss mesh wick was as wide as the wick hole, it plugged it up. this time i rolled up a smaller wick to allow for some air space around it when its in the wick hole. i want the coils to hold the wick like its "floating". after the rebuild and test vape, i realize that my previous fat wick only wicked on the inside of the wick. with the narrow wick and more air space around it, it can suck up juice around it and inside it.

after chain vaping there is no more top deck flooding. seems like there is more "flow" in the chamber since the wick is smaller. having space around the wick does help the juice move more efficiently. the wick its a couple mm away from the bottom of the tank. may be a skinny shortie straw (sssss mesh wick? lol) will flow even better?

do you guys usually roll fat wicks or narrow? how do you fix top deck flooding? whats the ideal wick size for fast wicking? share your perfect builds.

Personally, I am more a fan of Silica over mesh. Mostly because I have found mesh can't handle dry burning. I have burnt holes straight through mesh wicks. Not to mention once you char the area around the coil with a dry burn, EVERYTHING will taste burnt and that taste never goes away until you replace the wick. Though Silica doesn't wick as fast as mesh, this is easily solved with turning the mod upside down for a second after a few vapes. Basically, I make a double or triple layer of Silica with one strand long enough to reach at least halfway down into the tank, wrap the coil around the big part, mount it, and stuff the long tail down the wick hole. Works out beautifully for me.

As for flooding and fillholes i dont think i have ever put a fillscrew/plug back in once taken out. i like the wick to fill the wickhole.

but your observations are correct, when you vaporize juice you are creating a vacuum and the air in the juice reservoir needs to be replaced. having the fill hole open is giving the fluid somewhere to go once condensation builds up under the cap. with the screw in the fillhole the air will try to go down through the wickhole in some cases drying out the wick and causing a vacuum lock.

if everything is working correctly, in most cases, the wick makes vapor the vapor makes a vacuum and the negative pressure at the fillhole pulls the condensation back into the juice chamber. now with a loose wick it will pull the air/condensation back in around the wick
