on the verge of deciding which kit to start with, but im wondering a couple things.

What do people recommend mostly in regards to cartos vs atomizer+carto?
how long do each last?

how many refills would 30ml bottle give you?

essentially i am a pack a day smoker (20pack)

what kind of purchasing routine, would i need to start as far as getting atomizers (if i go that route) and juice?

(I do also realise that cartos are refillable too. so how long before those need replacing?)

thank you so much in advance!

These are kind of tricky questions, most of the answers are subjective. I prefer cartomizers, on a single fill, i'd say one lasts me about 4 hours. The ones i use hold about 1ml, so a 30 ml bottle will refill it over 30 times, depending on how much juice is in them when you top them off.

The amount of juice people need varies alot. I need about 90ml a month, i think thats probably alot, so you might be able to get away with less.

To start, i'd recommend finding someone that sells samples, that way you can ensure that when you stock up you have stuff you like.

I order stuff monthly, but shipping is expensive. After you figure out what you like, you will probably want to make bigger orders less frequently. How long cartomizers last depends on alot. Some juices will gunk them up faster, how much you vape will determine lifespan obviously. I think about 3 days is probably a good estimate. So 2 packs of cartos a month would probably be ok.

Someone else will answer your questions about atomizers, ive only really used them for dripping, so im not sure about lifespan and about cartridges.

To clarify, you said cartos vs atomizer+carto. You don't use a atomizer and a carto, Atomizers uses cartridges, cartomizers are kind of both built into one unit.

Hi Zenden, welcome to the group. Watch this first - If you’re new, this WILL be you. « Zombienerd's PV Blog

It sounds like you're looking at a 510 style kit? These are better suited for light smokers. They are sleek looking & feel small enough like a cig but the batteries don't last long. You would likely go through 3 or 4 in a day. That's a lot of charging. I'd suggest you skip the 2'nd stage & go straight to stage 3 & look at an eGo-C type kit with 1000mah batteries & pick up some Stardusts. If you go the 510 method - get the Low Resistance Kanger Horizontal Cartomizer.

Search the list of Canadian Suppliers for online stores.

Well, I've tried quite a few different things in the past 3 months & many users on this site have recommended the Kangers to others. I tried one 510 Thread Kanger Horizontal Cartomizer 5 pack Black or Stainlesslast night on an Ego-T battery & even on a 510 battery & both blew me away - great taste & lots of vapour.

The Ego style battery are rated at 650mah up to 1100mah while the smaller 510 are rated around 250mah- I think.

A single mah is like a puff. Ego batteries have a 510 connection - they will connect to anything 510 without an adapter.

Which style of battery are you leaning towards?

I'm not a fan of throat hit - one of the few, but I think for throat hit, you need high nic levels - 24mg? & lots of vapour. Lots of vapour usually happens with the correct power. Here's where it gets compliacated.

For regular batteries - get low resistance atomizer/cartomizer/clearomizer/ etc - I like the Stardusts, but right now they're available in Standard Resistance - you'll need more voltage than the standard 3.3v(Joyetech Ego) or 3.7 Ego battery to get max vapour out of a SR Stardust. Look around for Variable Voltage Ego Style Battery they're 3.3v 3.7v 4.2v. They're the cheapest solution.

Advice is not to waste money on a pen-style kit.. You know you will want a Mod soon with a big battery.
So why not just jump in feet first.. Get a Mod with some Joye LR 510 attys, start dripping and enjoy the real vaping experiance.. Juice I use 100% VG 36mg

My personal experience of my evolution in the first 43 days was to first get the 510T starter kit from canvape. Canvapes service is great and they ship quick. I have the std carts to but find they need to be filled more than the tanks. I was a pack a day smoker for over 25 yrs. I have not bought a pack since the day I got my kit.

The 510 feel like a smoke and helped me with the transition to vaping more easily. But the constant charging was a pain in the ..... I was going thru 3-4 batts a day, with one or two on charge all the time. If you can handle it I agree with others and try and get at least 650 mah and skip up a step. attys and carts are personal perference, try them both and see what you like. With the 510 thread there are lots to choose from.

For my 30 day no smokes treat to myself I got a REOSMODS Grand and I must say that it took vaping to the next level. The vapor and taste are incredible and a battery and tank that lasts all day. I run both LR attys and carts and luv it.

Good luck. You will love not smoking analogs. But you will probably spend the money u save on vaping gear in the start. But at least your money doesn't go up in smoke and you will enjoy the benefits of not smoking analogs.:vapor:

I'm just gonna jump in here and put in a vote for the EVO VV mod. I started with the KSD eGo VV which was an excellent choice and would recommend it to anybody starting out, but like T-Mike says you may as well jump to stage 3 straight off so you get a great vape experience right away. The only area of concern I have is with the stacked batteries. I am sure they will be fine but I would recommend learnin up a bit on why I am concerned. Just requires a wee bit of alteration and some good battery etiquette.

If you want to see what I started with, go here. It worked extremely well for me and was an inexpensive way to get off the buttz. One proviso though; the KSD can be a bit quirky when it is fully charged, but that fades with use and both of mine work great and no longer have any issues at all. I doubt you will be able to get enough stuff to make it work well for under $100. Maybe you can? Regardless, good luck buddy!

Welcome aboard Zenden!

Edit: No doubt you will notice a lot of different suggestions from a lot of different folks and they are all correct by and large. You will have to find what works best for you, but all of the suggestions given here are terrific choices for a noob. I am just short of 2 months along the vapour trail and my tastes have changed drastically. I would recommend a strong flavour or two for the inevitable dead mouth syndrome you will have to endure. A menthol or a strong flavoured sweet blend will make a world of difference for the first few weeks or so.

Feel free to ask any questions you have. Loads of great people in here to help ya along the way.

I researched the E-cigs for about 3 weeks and ordered in early November. There were few who still used the 510 after vaping awhile.

I agree canvape is the place to buy they have the best prices in Canada as well as great customer sevice and fast shipping.

I started with a ego 650mah pass through battery and some Kranger carto's to see if this would work for me. I spent alot of time at the computer.

I decided I wanted more than one battery and bought the Ego kit with atomizers and also ordered carto's.

The ego with a kranger horizontal carto are quite small and not so noticeable as well.

I use the atomizers for tasting juice I make and for times when I just feel like vaping a different flavours for a change from my all day vape as they are much easier to clean the flavour out.

I now use the V510 Vision 1.2ml Long Life Clearomizer. 1.2ml clear so you can see how much juice is in it and no fiber no fiber filling or the Visions extreme 3.5ml with an ego kit eGo Riva 650mAh Black w/gold band or Stainless.

They sell the 510's kits as well and anything you need to go with it except the juice.

Forget cigarette sized PV's. Crap battery life, small cartos.

Grab an eGo kit that comes with 2 batts. Grab some smoktech 1.7 cartos or Boge 2.0's and a couple of LR attys.

Try the juices in the atty before you designate a whole carto to a flavour you don't like.

Then from there, you can decide where else you want to go; more battery life, more juice capacity, bottom feeder, or variable voltage.

I have moved on to a Reo Mini and a ProVari, but I still have my 650mAh eGo batts as backups and they were an essential first step in my vaping.

I started recently and was maybe a bit impulsive in purchasing my gear, so maybe I can pass on some of my silly mistakes that may help.

I started with an EVO kit, firstly because of the general trend as a good inexpensive starting place and second I wanted something that didn't look to conspicuous. Mistake 1 - there are many reasonable mods out there that are not too complicated that will take you where you will likely end up. Namely the Knight Rider or Lava Tube, which are good value and will serve you well. Mistake 2 - e cigs will draw attention regardless of how they are shaped, and generally the attention is positive.

I bought juice on what people told me was an appropriate amount of nicotine. I went to a great Canadian vendor and ordered a ton of samples. Mistake 1 - don't assume anything, the nic levels I purchased were too high and made me a little ill. No flavor will fix that. Waste a little money at first finding what flavors and what nic levels are good for you and buy pg and vg to dilute if needed.

Atty vs Carto - I was lucky as my kit included both. This becomes personal preference and how much work you want to do. In my opinion cartos offer much less hassle, while attys are more flexible. The technology seems to be rapidly evolving on both as well, so I wouldnt invest heavily in any one brand or type as something newer and better is likely a few weeks away.

Good luck,

Welcome to the E-cig mayhem and congrats on the quest of being smoke free.I myself am a big carto fan I started with an 808 kit from Smoke NV great kit, switched to a 510,more goodies for it,I am now on an ego-T.I use Kanger Horizontal coil cartos for the most part,I also use Boge lr cartos as well.A 30ml bottle of juice will last me the better part of 2 weeks while I am working but I can easily vape 15ml a day when I am not working like now(INHALES-----EXHALES)ah much better.Good luck in your quest for your fav pv setup...it never ends your gonna be hooked and keep buying and buying....so many juices so little time. cheers:toast:

I use mainly cartomizers either boge or kanger 2ohm and also the ego mega dual coil cartomizers but they drain your batteries faster so if your out somewhere you would need to carry a couple of batteries with you . I use egos mainly to take to work but at home I use the provari . I have a couple of other cheaper VV mods that I might take out with me but the provari stays at home most of the time . I was a 2 PAD smoker . I DIY my juice so I don't care how much I go through . That being said I might go through a 30ml bottle in 5 to 7 days . I open a box of cartos about once a month but I don't only use the smaller cartos I might use a EMDCC or two during the month as well . As far as when to change a boge etc 2ohm carto well as often as you need to depending on how fresh you want to keep it . Why try and extend the use of a carto when it is starting to not taste as good .

Whatever battery you get I highly recommend you get a carto tank to try out. The SmokTech ones are cheap and work well. I also just picked up a couple of the SmokTech dual coil mega cartos --they hold 5 ml of juice and I must say they are pretty darn good! Juice wise--after you're into vaping for a bit don't be afraid to try DIY--it's SO much cheaper and is definitely not rocket science--easy and kinda fun!
