A Couple Question

Not open for further replies.
Hello all, just joined today and i love all the help that ive found so far but i still have some questions.

My equipment: ELeaf IJust S with the biggest tank on it, and the (i believe) .3 or what i call the middle atomizer. lol. I know its not the .15 ohm one but its also not the lowest one.

1) Im a previous smoker of 6 years, and i switched to vaping because i want to eventually get off completely of nicotine. For now im using .3 mg/ml of nicotine juice. Ive been finding that im still getting a drop or two of liquid every time i inhale, which in turn makes me cough even more than I am already. Am i coughing because my lungs arent use to the vaping?

2) Ive just made my first batch of ejuice myself. Using a base with .3 nicotine and Green Apple aroma. Ive let it steep for 3 days but still not getting the right amount of aroma i want. I mixed it 95 ml base to 5 ml of aroma. Any suggestions on getting the right taste?

Flavors come in assorted strengths.

Some yoy can get away with 5% flavor. Many you have to use 15-20% flavor.

1) Could be you are still getting used to it. Vape is totally different from smoke. At 3mg/ml nicotine on a tank atomizer, you shouldn't be coughing because of that. Mind you, if you are quitting, you might be better off using a higher resistance coil and more nicotine in your juice. To simulate puffing a cigarette (mouth to lung), but if you aren't getting the craving.. vape on where you are.
1a) If you are getting juice in your mouth, turn up the wattage. Your power is set to low to burn the juice in your coil and your inhale is pulling juice into the wick. To much juice in the wick will go up the chimney if you aren't using enough power to vaporize it. More power or a higher resistance coil will solve that.
It is also very important to start at your lowest power setting and turn it up as you go. This prevents burning your wick when you use a new atomizer coil.

2) Most flavors require 10% to 30%. I usually start at 5% and add flavor until I like the result. Check the manufactures website about flavor to base ratio for your flavor.
Generally I buy 50mg/ml unflavored nicotine base and add it at 6ml per 100ml (making 3mg per ml of finished ejuice). Remember to count your flavor in the remaining 94ml. Example.. 100ml = 6ml nicotine + (20ml flavor + 74 ml pg/vg). Also remember to count the pg/vg of your flavor and nicotine in the total. SO 30/70 = 6ml nic in pg base, 20ml flavor in pg base, 4ml PG and 70 ml VG.
*** I am using 6ml as the nicotine per 100ml because I use 50mg/ml nicotine base. You have to calculate for what you use. Example, 100mg/ml would be 3ml nic not 6ml.

Now if you are buying unflavored nicotine juice at 3mg/ml.. you might want to compare the cost of that to the cost of flavored ejuice and save the hassle of mixing. 50ml of 50mg nicotine base costs me exactly the same as 50 ml of flavored ejuice (at 3mg nicotine, or 6 or 12, or 18.. etc)
(LOL... I tried 2 drops on the 50mg base on my drip atty.. and nearly coughed up a lung)

You MAY cough a little as you become accustomed to vapor instead of smoke.

BUT - I'd follow up on a couple comments -

1) you should NOT get any liquid in when you inhale, not if your equipment is working properly. I don't know the iJust well enough to debug. But it's got no voltage or wattage to turn up...so I don't know what to try. Maybe ask again about that with a title including iJust - so users of that device will notice it?

2) 0.3 mg/ml? Are you sure? That is very very very low, and might as well be 0 nic. If it's 3 mg/ml, that's more common. Meaning, you can actually BUY 3 mg juice...

Regarding the flavoring - what exactly IS it? What brand? - and is it made for this? I ask because we typically call it flavoring, rather than aroma...

OH.. if you can't increase the wattage, use a higher vg juice. 30/70 or 20/80. Or it could be a bad coil, or the atty part isn't connected perfectly straight into the chimney, allowing juice to leak in at the top of the atty. Just a couple maybes based on stupid things i've done.

For those getting off stinkies i recommend two Atomizers. Fill one with tge Nicotine level that satisfies the craving.

In the other atomizer (make sure it is a differerent color or put a piece of tape on the Atty. In this Atty put a higher strength of nicotine Juice in it, and vape this Atty when you just have to have a cigarette. With coffee in the morning, after dinner, etc.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful comments.

A couple of things i want to point out. I dont have any control on my wattage. The Eleaf doesn't have that kind of control. Im set at a base 50 watts. If i use the .15 ohm att then it goes up to 70 watt but right now im still using the base attomizer.

i think im going to do what you guys said and just add some more aroma to my base for more taste.

I currently live in Germany (but i am an American) and i got this whole set up at a German smoke shop...the only thing that sucks is that the store is 60 miles away (one way) so going to the store every time something wrong happens isnt financially feasible. This is why im relying mostly on your guys help. haha

Hi @Curt William

You are using 3mg? (I expect so)

If you add 5% flavor, you are not really mixing the liquid very scientifically. You are also diluting your e-liquid, but the difference if you do it like this is basically nothing, so don't worry about that part of it just now.

5% will not taste great unless you are using very effective concentrate. I can't taste anything at 5%... nothing, not even the best flavor concentrate ever made. I mix tobaccos around 10%, and fruits more up to 15% or even 20%.

Just in general, can you buy online with paypal or credit card? That's how I buy 99.9% of my stuff, and it makes things a whole lot easier. In Germany, you can buy from any EU company, plus the UK (for now, anyway), and I (in Greece) have no trouble buying from places like Fasttech in China (I just keep the $amounts reasonably small to keep from attracting much attention at customs). One of my regular online places to buy from is located in Berlin, for example.

At any rate, to answer one question: as others have mentioned 5 ml of flavor for 95 ml of base is usually pretty low. There are a few super concentrated brands or flavors for which this might work, but typically it's usually closer to 10% flavoring. If you tell us what brand your flavor is, we might be able to give a recommendation. (Or it might be a house brand, and if you call the shop they should tell you the recommended percentage.)

Keep hanging out and reading and asking, and things will definitely become much easier -- we all started out with these sorts of problems!

This sounds very wierd, what is you setup?
Afaik no mod is fixed at 50w.
The only mods you could say is fixed is mech mods, but that then depends on the coil you're using.
And mech mod users are making their own coils on RBA/RTA's not using premade coils.
So abit more information of your setup would help alot.

Aswell 50w is pretty damn high, not even i as a experienced vaper vapes that high. It's just to rough.

Also a side note: German flavours brand, look up for these.
Their Nic bases and flavorings is excillent! Their premade juices aswell ofc.
I've been using their DIY for a long time now, smooth and nice nicotine and very smooth pg/vg.
Their flavorings is abit special though, because they're premade flavors so to say.
For example their complex vanilla cookie flavor, you only need about 0.8 ML of essence and 9.2 ml vg/pg blend for a complete 10 ml of a complex juice.
Since you live in germany i recommend them. I personally buy from an online swedish shop that imports their brand. GF is very big in germany, with stores etc so it shouln't be to hard to find. :)
Edit2:
I wasn't reading enough at the TS i noticed. After some research i noticed you're stuck with the battery you're using. Which in my opinion is way to high for a new user.
Back in my time the best you could get for a starter was a vision spinner battery.
But the setup you've got is a heavy subohm startkit. Which is not recommended for a beginner. However that explains why you're using 3mg, which is enough for a heavy subohm build.
The reason you're coughin is either you've burnt the coil or that the vape is just to heavy for you, my personal sweet spot as a mouth to loung'er is 13-15w.
With your setup you want to do lunghits, IE draw like a waterpipe.
If you don't provide enough cooling for the coil (the draw) you will burn the coils hence the harsh taste/coughing as a result.

Yeah, those "habit" cravings. I just took 5 mins and sat down and puffed my m2l set up, until the craving passed. Actually sitting and taking a "vaping break" simulated the ritual smoking close enough that they passed without to much suffering.
