Hey all,

I was watching a few videos on youtube about people making coils for RTA's and I feel like I would like to get a few and try them out. I currently have a MVP v2 and a Nautilus Mini clearomizer. Here are some of my questions:

1. What awg wire should I use to make coils from 1.5 ohm to 1.8? From my reading 28 should be a good size.

2. Cotton vs wire mesh vs Silica wick ... I am thinking silica is suffice due to the fact I switch liquids alot or is wire mesh good too?

3. I saw a few videos and on a Genesis style rta, when making the coil, it wasn't allowed to such but when I saw somebody making a coil for the Russian 91%, it had to touch. Is this because of the different styles?

4. What are the main styles of RTA's?

5. Which style does not require me to walk around with a screw driver?

6. I was looking at getting a Genesis style clone as well as a Russian 91% clone from fasttech, Good or bad idea?

and 7. Are there any other clones I should have a look at? Theres so many posted at fasttech that it takes too long to go through all of them.

Thanks

28 gauge Kanthal is an excellent choice to start out with.

Silica is easier, but can mute flavors. I prefer cotton or cellucotton (rayon) for better flavor. It's not that much harder than slilica string, and is less expensive, too.

3. I saw a few videos and on a Genesis style rta, when making the coil, it wasn't allowed to such but when I saw somebody making a coil for the Russian 91%, it had to touch. Is this because of the different styles?

I'd skip over the Genesis-style tanks if I were you. They are much more complex than a drip atomizer or Kayfun-style tank.

Genesis-style RTA.jpg
Genesis-style - wick is fighting gravity to bring the juice to the coil; requires tilting the tank to improve wicking; leaks if not kept upright; generally uses stainless steel mesh wick which can be a pain to work with, especially for a beginner.

Kayfun-style - uses negative pressure to wick the juice from the tank; is not position dependent and does not leak if not upright. Can use cotton or silica for the wick (easier to use than SS mesh). Much better design from an engineering and practical perspective.

4. What are the main styles of RTA's?

Drip atomizers, Kayfun-style tanks (tank above the build deck), Genesis-style tanks (tank below the deck).

5. Which style does not require me to walk around with a screw driver?

None of them do.

6. I was looking at getting a Genesis style clone as well as a Russian 91% clone from Fasttech, Good or bad idea?

Genesis-style bad idea, Russian (Kayfun-style) good idea.

7. Are there any other clones I should have a look at? Theres so many posted at fasttech that it takes too long to go through all of them.

Although the Russian 91% and Kayfun Lite Plus are very similar, I'm partial to the Kayfun. Difference being that the Russian's insulator block can be troublesome.

Hey Baditude, I really appreciate answering my questions and you answered everything that I wanted to know. Based on your words of wisdom, I have went ahead and got a Kayfun Lite Clone and I also went ahead with the 28 gauge wire. I will also go to a beauty shop to buy some cellucotton. I will skip the genesis style rta and I will play with my clone and learn about making my own coils.

Thanks again :)

Yeah, looks like you did good, the other great tank system to look at is the flash-e-vapor rba tank system, tis a dripper with a tank on top, and is a tough critter to match for ease of use, build, fill, and fraking fantastic vape. Can drip or tank, truly the best of both vape paths, or something like that.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!!
