Hi all,
Had my ZAP for about a month now and loving it but was wanting to experiement with using #500 ss mesh instead of the 325 & 400 it was shipped with. I watched a ton of videos and feel confident that I can properly oxidize and roll one but unsure of what lenghth I should cut my mesh. I was shipped in a fairly large sheet and all the videos I have watched showed them using a small square that they cut out but they never say the dimensions of this square. I am planning on stopping by today or tomorrow and picking up a torch so I can try and build me a wick this weekend. Is propane or butane better.

Sorry, I'm sure this has already been answered a thousand times I just could not find it any where.

People using 500 mesh often go wider and roll their wicks tighter. Check out this thread and type 'zap' in the 'search thread' box above. By the way, you'd have to take out the insulator if you make those wide wicks.

Most people use butane torches. I use my natural gas range myself.
