I admit, I like to tinker. I feel like I am always wrapping a coil, changing a head, replacing a wick or something along those lines. I was at a friends house for Sunday game night, and realized that I am still on the same microcoil in my rda, and the same heads in my ProTank and Davide. Of course, I have hardly used my AGA, but it's on the same build too!

Not that I should be needing to rebuild stuff all the time, but a week without maintainance is pretty good when spread across 4 active atties.

One of the main reasons I love micro coils or lower gauge coils builds, they just last :). Wish I had of started with them and skipped the rest; I'd of saved a LOT of kanthal in the process.

This ^^^^ Coils last a good long time but I like the fresh taste of new cotton so it get replaced frequently.

I love cotton but recently picked up some new Ekowool and I'm slowing starting to like it just as much. It takes much longer to get a good soak on it, but once it does, wow. Being hollow makes it easy to coil since you can stick a needle through it and wrap tight and pull out the needle to release pressure so as not to choke the wick, but even so, cotton will always hold a place in my atty's :).

I just rebuilt my first protank head! I used 10/11 wraps around a 1.4 mm micro screwdriver with 28 gauge kanthal wicked with cotton. I was shooting for 1.5 Ohms but it ended up being a 1.2 Ohm. Even though it's lower than I wanted, all I can say is WOW! Rebuilt protank coils are definitely the way to go! Next time I'll try for a 2.4 Ohm with 32 gauge Kanthal.

Spawnsharks (or anyone else) what's your favorite gauge to use? I'm wondering how much longer a 28 gauge microcoil will last versus a 32 gauge?

This is very true ... I usually have at least three tanks/drippers/clearos in use at one time, while rotating the use of each throughout the day. At this point I may be rebuilding my dripper's about once a month. I tend to bang out a bunch of coil head at one time so that they are all done, and when it is time to replace them I just reach into my bag of fresh coils, and dump the old one into to the "to be re-coiled" bag.

Micro coils and cotton are the way to go! Pull the old wick, dry burn the coil and replace the cotton. Couple of minutes and you are back in virgin territory! Coils last so long I don't know how long they've been in service!!

No doubt about that. My coils are lasting weeks, and I've been changing my cotton gauze every two or three days as I alternate juices a lot and sometimes the cotton just gets a funky taste. I like winding coils, though, so I do change mine before they need it, really. Only had one ever break on me, but it had been going strong for a couple weeks by the time it did.

I use 32g and wrap around a 2mm screw use the threads for spacing (about1/16"id) 7wraps on top 6 on bottom, it gives me 2.3, 2.4 oHms
