I was at Carrabba's earlier this evening and a funny thing happened. In restaurants it's my custom to ask before using a PV. I asked the waitress and she said she'd get the manager because he knew about them. He came out and threw one of those M401 knock offs that have been going around on the table. I laughed and said it was junk. He already knew that.

I happened to be vaping my homemade bottom feeder at the time. No way anyone could mistake it for a cigarette. He told me that it was fine with him but, if the customers complained, I'd have to stop. He said that there was a guy in the bar the night before using a PV that looked like a cigarette with a red end and customers kept complaining about the guy smoking in the bar. All you, I don't want to use anything that doesn't look like a cigarette in public types, remember that. I've said all along you don't want to look like a smoker. Anyway he was impressed with the amount of vapor I was getting and wanted more info. Every time I mentioned a website out came the pen.

I vaped all I wanted and no one complained.

He wound up giving me his card with his email address. I sent him a long email to get him started with a link to this site and to my favorite vendors.

When we had our leftovers packed up there was a free desert to go from him. How cool is that? :)

That is excellent. Education is the key. And you are correct in that we should distance ourselves from the image of "smoking" including making PV's that resemble cigarettes. That idiot light on the end of the "fake cigarette" is nothing but a flashing target for anyone that wants to make an issue of vaping. If it looks like a cigarette, makes "smoke" like a cigarette, glows like a cigarette, then it will be treated like a cigarette.

You did that guy a big favor turning him on to ECF. I wish I had discovered this forum a lot earlier. I doubt I would have saved any money, and probably would have spent more... but there would likely be a lot less stuff in my junk drawer.

I absolutely agree. I didn't get bit as bad as many people and I got decent equipmnet from a halfway decent vendor BUT. I could've got Ego 900mah kits for less than I paid for the 510 XL kits I bought.

It's difficult though because to the non-vaping people that wouldn't complain the realitic ones certainly look "cooler" to them and they are much better at convicing current smokers to switch (who nearly always want a real looking one to start off with) and the GGTS's of this world can make you look "silly" to them. On the other hand, the anti-smoking nazis are much more likely to kick up a fuss about one that looks real (and many will complain about anything that emits 'smoke' regardless of what the actual PV looks like).

I tend to take out my Riva and my super-mini. I use my Riva but if I'm approached by a current smoker I always pull out my super mini to get them interested futher.

The reson it stays that way though...I think.... is because we encourage it.

Think about it in terms of clothes or even cars over time the look and shape of them changes. I remember 80s cars were very angular and then in the 90s they became more rounded and they seemed sort of ugly at 1st but after they became more maintsream they didn't seem so odd looking.

I think if everyone would pull out their riva/ego for awhile they would stop seeming so strange to people and maybe this gotta look like a cig thing would go away.

I'm sure there are anti-smoking zealots that would object to a PV in any form. Personally, I think they are similar to racists. They say they hate smoking but, they enjoy hating smokers. In my experience when I've discussed what I'm doing with a non-smoker, they like it. We need to separate ourselves from smokers, not look like them.

lol I just got an email from that guy. Madvapes is only about 80 miles from here. He rode his motorcycle there today and bought a roughstack and a bunch of other stuff. He didn't even know they existed till I told him. I guess he didn't like me calling his kit junk. :) He wants me to come by so he can buy me dinner and pick my brain some more. I've created a monster!!! :)

Nice "monster" you got there. Is his food any good?
I turned my boat mechanic on to e-cigs and now he and I are pretty good friends. He sells eGo and Riva kits and accessories at his shop to the locals now.
He gave me a biminy top for my old pontoon boat so that was a pretty nice benefit. :)

Im the guy from Carrabba's. He did create a monster. My roughstack is good, but my vv Monkeyboxx is one the way. Analogs are long gone. Almost an honest month now. Vaping is infectious. My entire restaurant is about to convert.

Good to hear, welcome aboard! I'm not far from you so I'll have to drop by sometime.
