I've been reading here for a few weeks before finally deciding to join up, mainly to say thanks to all the contributors for their reviews, experience and advice. You've already saved me a lot of 'research' money. Thank you so all much!

I'm a social smoker who found myself becoming more regular due to stress and anxiety. This was worrisome to my non-smoking husband so I decided to try ecigs instead. The physical act of smoking is the soothing part for me so I've found nicotine free cartridges are perfect for my needs. vaping is pure pleasure without the guilt.

I'm delighted to have found this forum.

A hearty thanks,
Mrs X

I am the same way, I started smoking seriously when I started college. My mom slapped a pack of analogs in my hand on my first day and told me that if I was nervous, to wait till break or between classes and have a smoke. I wound up smoking for 30+ years.

When I stated vaping I was using 36 mg nicotine and have weened myself down to 6mg and sometimes 0mg. I found that it was not the nic I needed to calm down, I was associating the act of smoking with relaxation and if I had started with 0 mg of nic I would have been fine too. The nice was just giving me a buzz! LOL

Good luck and happy vaping!

Caffeine and nicotine are both drugs

Please read this Dangers of Nicotine | eHow.com

I am failing to see your point. What you linked does not in any way prove any more harm than anything else we ingest in life including wheat, dairy and sugar.

Creative Sort, I vape a lot more than I smoked. I'm not versed in how much nic you're taking in by extra vaping so that's a question you need to ask the vets around here.

Did you read the dangers of nicotine? If you cannot see the point in what it does to your body then I have nothing more to say.

Drugs are drugs, some are good, some are bad, we are adults and can choose to do what we want to do. This is just my opinion, I quit analogs to stop smoking and to stop my intake of nicotine. What you choose to put into your body is up to you.

I don't happen to agree with you as there are people around here that suffer from conditions that benefit from nicotine usage. And you're right, it is up to the user. Some people who suffer from migraines benefit from caffeine intake. It's not a one size fits all thing.

However, I don't think that fear mongering is something we should be doing to the new users. How and what you chose to quit is your journey. I quit everything the same as you did, but I don't expect everyone here to do as we did. Baby steps my friend!

Okay then, read this Nicotine Information - Effects of Nicotine - Use of Nicotine

Especially this

Nicotine can act as both a stimulant and a sedative. Immediately after exposure to nicotine, there is a "kick" caused in part by the drug's stimulation of the adrenal glands and resulting discharge of epinephrine (adrenaline). The rush of adrenaline stimulates the body and causes a sudden release of glucose as well as an increase in blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate. Nicotine also suppresses insulin output from the pancreas, which means that smokers are always slightly hyperglycemic. In addition, nicotine indirectly causes a release of dopamine in the brain regions that control pleasure and motivation. This reaction is similar to that seen with other drugs of abuse-such as ....... and ......- and it is thought to underlie the pleasurable sensations experienced by many smokers. In contrast, nicotine can also exert a sedative effect, depending on the level of the smoker's nervous system arousal and the dose of nicotine taken.

Okay, might not be a major affect on the body, but still, I can do with out it. Yes, caffeine might be just as nasty, but we all need out crutches and I am trying to do with a few crutches as possible.

I don't want to hijack the OP's thread here (sorry!) but I had to reply to this. I smoked for 30 years on and off and am hypo-, not hyper-, glycemic so the above sentence doesn't apply to me or a few other women I know. So much for the word "always"!

You are right, and I apologize if I was "fear mongering" There is a good and a bad to everything. I guess that having lost family to cancer and having had parents who suffered from emphysema and asthma from smoking has got me on a soap box.

Forgive me everyone for my preaching, I had only good intentions, but as was pointed out I was being a bit one sided and not looking at nor providing a full picture due to my own ignorance.

Thank you JustKryssi for your insights and knowledge.
