It all started simply enough. My wife asked if I would be willing to try a e-cig.

Now I've been smoking for 20 years and tried several different ways to stop. Frankly I didn't see me not smoking. In fact I was pretty much resigned to the fact I was going to die a smoker, like my two grandfathers who both died from lung cancer.

I figured, what the hey. If nothing else I can play with the tech and fill my geeky need to tinker. So the wife picked up a cheapo model from the local smoke shop. To say the unit was crap would be putting it nicely. The cartridges were over priced. Suppose to equal a pack of smokes? Yeah right. Battery last more the 4 hours? Good luck. Produce vapor consistently let alone "heavily"? Suuurrreee, and I have a bridge to sell. What it did do, however was give me a taste, and that taste was vanilla.

I was floored. When it worked I wanted more of those flavors. Anything besides that burning leaf taste was just so absolutely astounding to me, I had to dig deeper. That was a mistake, but one I am happy I made. I had no idea how deep this rabbit hole went. Deep. Really deep.

I started as I always do (I am a geek after all), and started searching the net for anything I could find on product comparison, reviews, etc. I knew what I was looking for to start with. I wanted something that equaled at least a pack of smokes at one go with good flavors and decent prices. I settled on Smoketip, a KR808D-1 based model that had been reported to have great service and decent flavors. The lifetime guarantee on the batteries was a bonus. Of course, I didn't stumble onto ECF until after the fact, but we'll get to that later.

So I got my new toy, and launched into it with a vigor I don't often exhibit. Why? Because I didn't have to give up something I loved to do, but at the same time gained SO much more then a plain old cigarette could deliver.

I could have stopped there and been satisfied, but I didn't. A friend who had been vaping for a while pointed me at a place that sold a bacon flavors juice. I love me some bacon. If I were ever to have children, I would likely sell them to you if you offered me bacon as payment. So, I took a look at what DFWvapor had. Now I had just gone from 1 flavor to 10+, now my friend Bagger had just tossed me into the deep end. But I was smart SMRT! I was going to research how to do this whole "Refill a cartomizer" business before I bought anything. After all one of the reasons I pickup up a PV was to save money.

I was surprised how easy it was so I put in a order for 3 flavors for me and one for the wife (Hers are all 0 nic). Once they came in I filled up a couple of cartos immediately and was in heaven. I have found Nirvana. Ok maybe not that far, but by this point I hadn't had a real cigarette in 20 some odd days and had not desire to have one. Why have a pbj when you have bacon wrapped filet?

Then I stumbled upon this hive of villainy, debauchery, and evil evil EVIL temptation! I soon found myself in WAY over my head. It was like walking into the PC mod scene back in the day. I thought I had educated myself thoroughly. How wrong I was. I spent a few days reading reviews on liquids and hardware. Marveling at mods and tweaks. I went from hooked to a near religious fervor (No really. My wife told me to shut up last night about something new I learned from you lot).

It was time to order more liquid. Trying to decide on who is like trying to pick your favorite arm. You know you have to make the decision and pull the trigger, but it doesn't make it easier. I wound up going with Vaporbomb after hearing over and over both here and from other friends how good the cina-bomb was. Wouldn't you know the jerks were right. They were also right about many of the other flavors. The folks at VB were even nice enough to include a free sampler which caused about 5 minutes of confusion trying to figure out where the extra bottle came from.

That has been my journey so far. 42 days in, 1099 cigarettes avoids, and not a whole lot of money saved. I have no idea where to go from here but I'm already eyeballing my next PV so I can hand the 808 over to the wife. It's thanks to you folks that I fell this deep and I'm dragging my friends in with me. Hells, even a couple who don't smoke at all are starting with 0 nic just because all the flavors sound and taste so awesome.

So on the behalf of this noobie, thank you each and every one of you who helped on this journey. Even if you didn't know it. I just hope I can be as helpful with someone understanding all of this as you all were.

Great story. Given you are a geek and into good flavor, my humble advise would be to skip the ego/riva stage and jump right to a nice Reo Grand or other bottom feeder mod. You know you're eventually going there any way, so skip the middle step and save money.

A 3.7 bottom feeder that will also let you do 6V, will let you test all 510/306 atomizers, cartomizers (even your KR808s with an adapter), drip tips, and other fun stuff you read about on ECF. It's perfect for getting the best out of your juices.

Keep your KR808s for back up and when you want the cig look.

Welcome to ECF I haven't tried VaporBomb yet but They're on the list. DFW was the 1st place I ordered from and I highly recommend them especially for someone starting out. I fell right into it like a duck in water. I'm not sure some of the other vendors I've tried since might not have put me off vaping a bit not knowing about letting the juice settle and such.
They have one of the larger flavor selections I've seen so far as well.

ETA: I should tell James he owes me some juice for all the free advertising I give him.

I've sampled quite a few juices from an assortment of vendors, but so far, for me, I think mrs t's has some of the best tasting dessert/fruity flavors I've tried. They actually taste like what the bottle says, and no steeping required. I highly recommend that you check them out if you haven't yet.

Important Information

Happy vaping.

My wife told me to shut up last night about something new I learned from you lot.
By the time I was two months in my wife was getting tired of hearing me talk about electronic cigarettes all the time.
But it took about five months before I could carry on a conversation about anything else.
:)

Hey there,
I have only been vaping 3 days and my husband calls me the "Vaporizer" ... he said he knows he'll get sick of hearing me talk about it but that he's really proud of me for quitting analogs.

He was never ever one to hound me to quit, but of course he wanted me to quit. I just turned his mother on to this site!!!

I also can't wait to get some calendar months away from the analogs. I'm so happy and pleased with myself... I never thought there was any hope at all for me to quit until I found this site and read all of the success stories..

I think perhaps that the biggest reason we "converts" get so into this, is because we finally have hope or succeeded. Until I started I never had the hope of quitting analogs. I was resigned to the fact I would smoke them the rest of my life and likely die because of it. Now sudden;y I don't have to worry about that, while STILL getting to do what I enjoyed. How can we not be super pysched about that and want to share it with everyone?

The funniest thing is I have friends who have never smoked starting to vape (a lot of them are using it as a dieting aid) because of the flavors.

Oh gosh - just being honest here but this makes me nervous. Please don't let the anti vaping people with powers hear that co's they'll automatically link vaping with people who are doomed to become nicotine users. The last thing we need is for teenagers (for example) to link vaping with dieting.
I honestly don't get the whole food substitute thing some people say they get with vaping. Food to me is to be eaten - chewed, smooched up in the mouth, rolled around on the tongue and swallowed and the belly says 'thankyou!" co's it's full.
To taste it but be denied those other things to me is just like being teased. ???

But anyway, I am very pleased for you that you have kicked smoking to the curb! Yes, it is amazing to find something that we can do that has significantly less harm and it's hard not to be enthusiastic about that!

Well, I started vapeing 'cause I couldn't smoke at work (I work at a prison). I find myself (out of habit) lighting up an analog occasionally (I still have most of the last carton I bought /sighs, I bum most of them OUT), and just about RETCHING. Usually I'm tired (25 year plus habit) when I light one up. My ashtrays however make WONDERFUL Carto holders!!

My other half is here today, he is smoking Cowboy killers and smells like an ASHTRAY /shudders, and I sincerly understand now the comment bout kissing ashtrays (I made him brush his TEETH LOL). Hmmmm might be time to get another convert going!!!!

Oh I agree. I make sure they know from the start that if they aren't smokers to get the 0mg nic juices. I also make sure all the minors I know, know that smoking in any for is bad for you and you had better be 18 before even thinking about it. Realistically though, I'd rather have my 17 year old nephew stop smoking and start vaping but...

As for the food thing, I agree, but then again I'm a fairly skinny guy and don't have food issues. However some of the folks I know fight their "food addiction" just as badly as i did my cigarette addiction. They eat even when they shouldn't/are not hungry/stressed what have you. If this helps them not snack, I'm not going to argue. However I do make sure they know this isn't a weight loss program. It's a way to consume flavors and/or nicotine in a safe manner compared to cigarettes. If they choose to start they do so as a well informed adult, aware of the consequences.
