I've been vaping for 4 weeks and, though I love the idea, and did not even have the urge to smoke an analogue, have had to stop. Ever since I started I've been plagued by symptoms that are like a very bad cold/sinus infection -- runny nose, hacking cough, plugged ears, sore throat.

At first I thought it might be just a coincidence -- vaping and bad cold just happened to coincide. Stranger things have been known to happen. But no -- after an unsuccessful course of antibiotics in the event it was a sinus infection my doctor and I have come to the conclusion that these things are doing bad things to my body.

Off for a day and symptoms are clearing up. Back to regular cigarettes. :(

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I've ordered some Johnson Creek non-PG juice in the hope that maybe I have a PG problem. Will give it one more go. Hope that's the case as I would really like to kick the analogue habit and do like the idea of e-cigs.

I guess that means there is now one doctor who is completely against the use of E-cigs.

I had exactly the OPPOSITE problems.

I had similar symptoms for several months prior to stating to vape. (inc no less than 3 courses of anti-biotics!)

Although not completely back to normal and awaiting a hospital appointment, the only thing that helped give me any relief whatsoever as vaping with a home-made menthol mix.

Leigh, you are a poster person for what we don't know about e-smoking. I know I'm not the only person who feels it's shameful that a product like this was marketed without any testing that would clearly delineate side effects. All reputable drugs have such a listing -- and we consume a drug via inhalation.

Forums help all of us know what other persons are experiencing while using an e-cig, but forum anecdotes are no substitute for a valid clinical trial of many people.

The information that accompanies e-cigs and e-liquid is so woefully inadequate that that alone is a reason for the FDA to ban both. Sad but true. Hope you feel better and find a way off cigarettes. Do read the Alternatives section here and try something besides e-smoking. There are many ways to feed the addiction monster.

I suggest that you rule out the possible allergic reaction to PG by visiting your physician one more time for a test patch analysis before you make more purchases. Here is a link to PG that you can glean info from to take to your physician:

I think for some people when you dry up your skin, sometimes your body fights back and activates the oil glands in over drive. That is why some people with oily skin are told to use facial moisturizer believe it or not. That way it keeps the skin lubricated so the oil glands do not start to go into overdrive.

So PG is deemed safe. Hypothetically cant you just have pg and nicotine as your only two ingredients? If you found a supplier you really trusted who had good quality control, and they had a liquid with just PG and nicotine. Wouldnt you than consider the unknowns to be at least at a minimum?

Im posting quite far into this thread but just thought id share my experience. I smoked analogs for over 20 years and i went cold turkey with the DSE901. The only side effects i have encountered so far are higher sex drive i had the start of E.D. before i quit thats gone, used to get very bad heartburn when i smoked thats gone, food tasted weird at first but now it tastes better(after getting used to taste again lol), i can smell again, house/car/clothes/hands smell much better, fingers are no longer stained, my breath doesnt smell anymore, girl friend loves to kiss me, and im not out of breath all the time. The only negative thing i can think of is for the first few days i had dry throat not sore but dry nothing water didnt solve tho. So far so good i think and its only been about 3 weeks now(check my banner).

Well, I am one of those "men" who will not go to the doctor unless an arm or leg falls off (sometimes ONLY IF BOTH!. But I figure I need those:rolleyes:

I couldn't explain my symptoms better than above. The problem is I have been vaping with no side effects whatsoever since the end of March 2009. I was vaping and smoking a few analogues as well, but as of last weekend, I have only vaped. About 4 days ago the symptoms mentioned above really hit me hard. I don't think I vaped more, as I was already vaping 4-6 mils a day (most a lot of that though trough inexperience). I also only use 36mg nic as I constantly search for the best throat hit. Well, I must have found it, but now I have a very sore throat, and coughing up phlegm (light green in color which I think is healthy?). I do feel as if I have a cold, but I rarely, if ever, do get sick, let alone colds.

1) Pray for "it's a cold"
2) Cut the nic level down
3) Do nothing, hope it goes away
4) GO back to analogues for a week and see if that changes anything. I never planned on quitting analogues, so going back for a short while is not a problem to me.
5) I just cut some 36mg liquid with glycerin last night, 50/50 and that did not seem to help.
6) OH! And Aspirin does actually work real well with the sore throat. I just can't take 12 a day like I am now.

Other than going to the doctor, any suggestions? I am actually getting worried now, you know, the China factor. Oh, I get most of my juice from two USA suppliers, all respected by forum members.

Many thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

Mike

Backup... "Green phlem, Sore throat, Cold Syptoms".. 8-o

Mike, *IMHO* Unless you're from another planet ;) , those symptoms actually sound like "Bronchitis".. I get it every season (since I was a kid- 40+ years).. It's the green phlem that is the culprit... I mean if you were choking up thick white, clear, or even a long shot yellow, sure... Green is infection which is the bronchitis germies...

I've only been vaping for afew days and I'm like many here.. My skull feels like I've been beating it with a ball-peen-hammer, but I take Tramadol and Acetominophen for RSD, thus the headache must be bad since it''s not going away with these drugs in my system ... The whole acne thang makes alot of sense, kinda like if a person stops eating meat or at least alot of veggies, they will do that too...

This is a wonderful thread... Hope other newbies like myself will pop in here... I have been reading this forum for 3 months until I opened my mouth (so to speak) and jumped in and also bought the supplies... I'm soooooooooooooo grateful for all of you... Actually feel like all of you are great people and trolls haven't found this place yet...

Anyway, Mike if you still are doing this in afew days, you need to get some antibiotics....

Leigh,

The same thing happened to me and my boyfriend when we both started smoking e-cigs. We both had terrible (and I mean terrible) sinus infections and sore throats big time. I'm a singer and I've never had such a reaction like this from smoking before, so I have switched back to my 5 traditional (ultra lights) a day.

I get a weird sensation just below my right shoulder blade. Kind of feels like a tingly almost burning feeling. Has been happening ever since I started e-cigs.
When I use higher nic it's way more noticeable.

When I first started vaping I was using 0 nic and completely went cold turkey from analogs.
I had headaches, a few Very angry days, jiggery nervousness, Slight depression.
I ordered some nic juice and now am bouncing up and down with strengths from 6 to 11mg.
I definitely still have a nicotine hunger/withdraw thing going on. I want to get completely off the nic but have to find a juice that I can tell myself is good enough and then go through nic withdraw again. I get dry throat as everyone else mentioned.
If I use 24mg. I really notice that annoying tingling feeling in my back shoulder blade area so I dilute my 24mg and also my 36mg.
I made the mistake of trying one drop of 36mg. on my atty and it was way too strong for ME and I felt sick from it for several hours. lightheaded/nauseous
I think the fact that my lungs are damaged may be why I am more sensitive than many here on the forum.
My morning Nasty cough is GONE now since vaping. I can breathe deeper.
I feel 30% better so far and have only been vaping since may 30th full time.
I have had a few analogs but now my tastebuds aren't coated with brown funky from smoking so when I have had a cigarette they don't taste the same any more. In fact they taste like the smell of an ashtray that is full of old butts.

I'm a week in now... I haven't experienced any differences, until today... I was taking a nap, I woke up and my mouth was SOOOOOOOOOO dry like really I almost couldn't move my tongue because it was stuck LOL I guess thats common, but it's odd that today is the first day, a week later.

Just drink lots of water. That's what I have heard and read.

Most amazing and unexpected effect I've had is happiness! I don't know if it is the excitement of finally having an alternative to smoking that actually works, or the fact that my children are so thrilled and relieved that I finally stopped smoking (and I no longer have to feel like a weak selfish mommy by making my kids worry) or if it's because I physically feel soooo much better and less run-down, or what. It's probably a combination of these things, all of which I am loving :)

The only even vaguely negative thing I've noticed is that I had a small breakout on my chin (same spot I used to occasionally get them as a teen). No big though, and it's mostly cleared up already with a bit of extra attention to my skin care routine.

I quit smoking for a month before I got my e-cigs. I was very irritable and gaining weight. The day I quit I started working out twice a day to keep the weight off. Didn't help - 10 lbs in one month. Every time I quit smoking in the past I usually got a really bad cold. This time I didn't. I've been using my e-cigs regularly for 6 weeks now and I'm much more content and I've dropped all the weight I gained. No more sbmokers cough and don't even need to think about ...... (not that I ever did, but I think you get my point). The only negative symptom was a dry throught for a couple of weeks and the fact that my fingers constantly smell like e-juice from constantly reffilling cartridges.

Alot of what I'm reading here seems to be common symptoms of quitting the analog cigs. I certainly don't want anyone to take this list as a "Your ok, don't worry about it" kind of thing. It is your body and you know it better than anyone else. With a quick search on the web though, you will see what I mean....

Depression is common in the short and long term. In the short term it may mimic the feelings of grief felt when a loved one is lost. As foolish as it sounds, a smoker should plan on a period of actual mourning in order to get through the early withdrawal depression.
___________________________

I know that for my personal experience, I have had some of these over the last 2 weeks since I started vaping. It seems to add up. The quantity of nic that I am recieving from vaping is no where near the amounts I would get from analogs. Therefor I'm going to be going through some withdrawals as my body adjusts to the new lower levels. Also, with the smoke clearing out of my lungs, some common cold symptoms have appeared. Sore throat, coughing and running/ stuffed nose. For the first week, I was a bit on the 'hard to get along with' side but that along with the other symptoms have mellowed out.
Towards the begining of this week, I thought my ADD was kicking in, but it could also be contributed to the nic levels. By thursday, I was fine (I never take meds for the ADD), my body just finally adjusted. Thank god too as I had a public speaking gig out of state and was wondering what kind of lunitic I would sound like with no focus and jumping all over the place. For me, all of this seems to be because of quitting the analogs, not from starting vaping.

Hi all,

One symptom that has been unexpected is the "throat hit" I get in the morning from E-cigs. Sends me into complete spasms of coughing. I have NO sore throat whatsoever. Only this "catch me by surprise coughing" when I start vaping with my morning coffee. Found this interesting. (Use the 510.)

I'm wondering if this has to do with the level of nicotine I'm using. I used to smoke ultra-lights analogs and wasn't even sure what a "throat hit" was until I started vaping. Now I "get" the term and am using 18mg juice.

Did I go too strong in my quest to avoid withdrawal symptoms? I've had NONE. :thumb:

Any thoughts on the mg issue? I hope this isn't the PG, because I've stocked up. (I guess next on my list is exploring my need to hoard. :D)
