Ok, This is not entirely on topic, but I'll go see the movie based on it taking the FDA to task for its murderous ways. Favorite quote from the article:
Big pharmaceuticals like the FDA precisely because it protects a large market for them, and its approval process ensures that any cure crafted outside a government-infused pharmaceutical establishment will have to be sold to a well-connected drug company if it is to ever be used for its real purpose: the saving of lives.

The FDA has quite a history of bad decisions - going back to prohibiting beta blockers and a host of political rather than scientific based conclusions. Here's an article from the Cato Institute's (mentioned in the Forbes article in the quote from Ed Crane) ... Regulation Magazine (I've been a subscriber since the first issue) in 2010, which follows all regulation, much of which is under FDA jurisdiction.... This one mentions the discrimination against eCigarettes:

http://object.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/serials/files/regulation/2010/10/regv33n3-8.pdf

"Science takes a back seat to political correctness and bureaucratic
capriciousness at today’s fda. To see this, consider a few
examples of some products that the agency has determined
are too risky:

E-cigarettes The fda warned last year about the safety of
a product called the “electronic cigarette,” a substitute for
smokers who are trying to quit...

But after performing a cursory laboratory analysis of the
products, regulators warned smokers to avoid them, essentially
telling them to stay with deadly cigarettes."

Although the movie seems to bring up some of the restrictions on aids drugs, it was aids drugs that first had a 'fast track' in the FDA. This is the "Science takes a back seat to political correctness" part. RU486, anti-obesity, ADHD type drugs fly through. Certain vaccines and other drugs that affect larger population are not fast tracked.

I like that it is a movie with a big named star (basically if I've heard of him he's probably a big star) that is critical of the FDA. At this point, the more light shining on the FDA and their practices the better for us as vapers.

Thanks for the link Kent, I'll take a look after work.

I don't know if I would call China "unregulated". Their government just doesn't feel they have to wear a smiley face to keep their people from revolting. The threat of death seems to be enough. And doesn't the Chinese Government own most of the corporations over there?

If they aren't all "owned", but they are all controlled by the gov't. But true ownership means 'exclusive control over the use and disposal of property'.... so yeah  Basically it's the difference (actually no difference) between socialism and fascism. Fascism (as an economic system) gives the appearance of private ownership when almost all activity is controlled (restricted or mandated) by the gov't. Think the current GM.... and most utilities. Then you have the mixed 'crony capitalism' (where capitalism is no part of the mix) ... think GE, where the owners like and benefit by their association with gov't by usually tramping out the competition - it's the precursor to fascism, which is a precursor to socialism where the 'façade' is dropped along with the idea of 'ownership' by anyone but the state. In this sense, socialism is more 'honest' about it. :D
