John 14 - "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2 (This will be done in a couple of parts. I hate extremely long posts.)
Do you wonder what heaven will be like? I must say that we're limited in our knowledge of heaven. The Bible tells us more about what won't be there than it does about what will be there. But the Bible gives us all we need to know about heaven, and what we know leaves us in breathless wonder. Let me give you some facts about heaven.
Heaven is a real place. Heaven isn't a condition, a state of mind, some will-o'-the -wisp. Heaven is a place on God's map. The apostle Paul was taken into 'the third heaven.' 2Cor. 12:2-4 He wasn't sure if he was there in his body or out of it, but he knew he was there. He called it paradise.
The saved go to heaven immediately up death. Paul wrote, "We are always confident knowing that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord." 2 Cor. 12:2-4 Some people think the soul sleeps in the grave to await the resurrection. No, the body awaits the resurrection but the spirit goes immediately to be with Jesus.
We will know our loved ones. Joyce and I will see our little baby boy, Philip. He won't return to us, but we will go to him. 2Sam. 13:23. Paul said that one day we will all live together with Jesus. 1 Thess. 5:9-10
There will be joyful activity in heaven. One of the myths of heaven is that we're going to wear wooly robes and a halo and sit on fluffy couds pucking harps.* But heaven won't be boring. We will serve God in a place full of glory. Rev.7:15
* The asterik is where I want to insert my own thoughts. I have always loved stringed instruments. I have played the violin (my father was a genius with the violin...not me.) and it just wasn't for me. I tried for 5 years. Then I tried piano and though I love the piano, I did not become a pianist. Then I taught myself the guitar and I would still be playing if it weren't for fibro. But, I've always wanted to learn to play a harp and I'd love to sit on a cloud playing one. Talk about silly, but it's true. Or I can sit in my front yard and play.
