Thank you for all the advice.

SO...what's the consensus? Have a tobacco-tasting juice on hand for the cravings or switch straight to other flavours to remove the association?

Whatever works for you. I think most of us started with tobacco flavors. While I'm a 0mg vaper, I still keep a 6mg ry4 handy for those moments.

I think it really helped me that I knew a person that was vaping also. Also, I just read the "New Posts" very day and then did research to figure out things that I wasn't sure about. Its been a year+ now and I still do it.

As to flavors, I go by taste. I don't like tobacco. Many, I hear, add a fruit flavor to change the flavor a bit.

Good luck!!

When I bought my new kit at the beginning of this week, I didn't ever intend to completely give up, but I've smoked far fewer analogues than I expected (only half a one yesterday and one today).

As an "all or nothing" kind of person I'm now disappointed with myself whenever I have an analogue!

My question is, for those who have given up completely, how quickly did you manage to switch to just vaping? Am I trying to do too much too fast? Yesterday my mum said I shouldn't set myself up for a fall my trying to quit cigs too quickly!

I think association is going to be a problem. I'm vaping in the bedroom / office, but only smoke outside. The trigger for having the cigarette I just smoked was walking into the garden where I usually smoke. If I'd stayed upstairs I wouldn't have had it, but I can't stay shut in my vaping den forever! I suspect it's going to prove even harder when I go to the pub...

All tips appreciated.
First, why are you only vaping in one room? Why not carry your device with you? You can at least vape in the places & at times you would have been smoking. Stop carrying the analogs around. Put them on a shelf somewhere, but keep your PV within reach. When you feel the urge for a puff use it. If you've already come this far you've come a long way in a very short time! Congratulations! You are doing great! Also, make sure your nic level is high enough to satisfy your urge. You can decrease the level gradually over time as you choose. But the main thing at first is to stop automatically reaching for the cigs & start reaching for your PV, & deciding what flavor you want at the moment. I was a diehard, pac a day, smoker for over 44 years. I couldn't even think about quitting without having to light up. I loved to smoke, it was very relaxing for me, & in times of stress I'd catch myself smoking 2 packs a day. When I got my first ego set up that was it for me. Nothing else, even the cigalike I tried, came close to making me even consider continuing with it. That little ego/CE4 device did it. Even with the plain peppermint ice juice it worked at once. I was able to walk right past the pac of analogs on the shelf next to the door where I would go out to smoke. I smoked one more cig that first day & realized that the PV was much more pleasant & enjoyable. I smoked 3 more, a month apart, just to test myself to make sure I really didn t like that anymore, it really did taste & smell terrible, & I really didn't want it anymore. I just had my 1 year anniversary on the 1st, & my 61st birthday is next week. I'm using less nic than I was when I started & am not concerned about how quickly I lower it more, although I will at some point. If I can do this, you can do this. Take your time, keep a good juice on hand, & your PV close by. AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUPS! Never, ever, ever be without a working, ready to go device.
Now go forth & conquer.

I consider myself very fortunate that after 35 years of smoking 1 1/2 PAD i was able to stop smoking cigarettes the day i got my device, i was at the cross roads of quitting already because i was getting tired of the taste, smell, coughing etc... did I desire a smoke here and there? Of course!, but i fought through it and stayed the course. It's been 1 year 3 months since.

Do not beat yourself up about a smoke here and there, like any addiction it is a battle that may require many bouts before you win. Hang in there it can be done. :headbang:

I also was a very heavy smoker & though I cut down drastically straight away, it took me a long time to give up the last 2 a day.

As others have said, don't be too hard on yourself @bennytuk - count the ciggies you don't smoke, rather than the ones you do :)

Took me about a week and a half, and then I feel off the wagon for a couple of months before going back to vaping. It's going to be a lot harder when you head to the local, and that's a fact. Bring you vape stick and hit it hard. You may want to pack some hi-nic juice just for drinking. And don't hate yourself for smoking. Count each one you don't smoke as a victory, not each one you do as a failure.

I was a very heavy smoker
It took me two weeks to lay the ciggys down
I started with a local tobacco flavor but after a couple months went to fruit flavors
A year in vaping I tried a ciggy took two puffs and threw it away couldnt handle the stink

Even now when Im under a lot of stress a ciggy will cross my mind so I pick up my vape and hit it hard and it works for me

I never had intentions on quiting smoking. Well over 20 yrs analog.
I used ecigs as a way to "smoke" in situations when I didn't feel comfortable using analogs or when I was smoking due to habit not necessarily wanting one (like driving). I was also coaching youth ice hockey and didn't want the kids smelling cigarette smoke on me.
Over time the analogs lost their appeal and I began using ecigs more and more. Since it didn't cost as much, I would treat myself to a new device when I saved enough money from my smoking budget. Due to the technology improving it made switching over even easier.
This all of this took about the course of a year or so. Having said that, we all have our own pace, don't force it, let it happen.
My wife still smokes and resents it when I try to get her to switch (the cost of cigs will probably be her only motivation).
Take your ecig with you where ever you go and when you reach for an analog make a decision on which is most appropriate. Even though I haven't had an analog in several years, when I'm in the garage working, I really like the fact that I can take a puff and put it down without burning up an entire cig.
I wish I had found this forum sooner, the community here is a great support group!

Same here..after 25yrs of smoking 2 PAD I too quit the very same day I got my mod and tank..using Marlboro flavored juice with 24mgs of nic it was instantly satisfying and never again had the urge to light a real cigarette to this very day 3 1/2 yrs later...

All over the place
I stopped immediately, but that is kinda how I roll with a lot of things. Friends, habits, lovers, styles, thoughts or whatever. Poof. Done! But whether you did it how someone else did it is irrelevant, you have to do what is right for you. I can tell you this much for sure: only a few things I can think of go better with smoking than guilt! I say quit the guilt and the rest will follow, and if it doesn't, at least you will have one less thing in your life that isn't good for you.

Was never really a big smoker, perhaps 3-4 a day. I did however smoke for awhile. Started vaping and it took me a few months where I would have perhaps an analog a week, some weeks I would have a puff or two. Gradually, cigarettes tasted just awful. Been vaping for over two years. You'll get there! Best of luck to you on your vaping journey. Ginger

It was close to immediate for me, i smoked sometimes when my first kit failed in intensive use. And it was a true pain each time to inhale the smoke, even smelling it in the street.

I had a lot of habits as smoker. Hours, places, rituals ... but in place to inject the vape in these habits to lure me, i've created new "vape habits". And it worked pretty well for me, because i get a lot of advantages compared with the old ones.

Every person is a particular case with cigarettes, but the most successfull vapers i known have all in common one thing : "no pressure, just pleasure".

Like you, I had no intention to give up smoking when I started vaping over 3 1/2 years ago. Vaping was recommended to me by my brother (another vaper) who found a kit in a local vape shop in central NY that was already working for him and his girlfriend for a couple of weeks. I ordered the same kit through their online store (a 901t cigalike setup) and I tried it with a great deal of skepticism. It took me a little over a week to finally give up the morning and after dinner smokes, but I was finally able to do that when my taste buds recovered and cigarettes tasted awful in comparison.

My tip: It's a process. It's not about the few cigarettes you still smoke during the transition, but rather all the cigarettes you don't smoke now, and for the rest of your life. Give yourself some freedom to fall off once in a while, if you need it, and then just keep moving ahead.

Once i upgraded from my first cigalike i managed to switch almost instantly. When i was using the cigalike i was able to cut my stinky consumption by about half and realized that this vaping lark may just work. Been 8 months now :)

I know some people take much longer than me but every cig you don't smoke is a good thing just go at a pace that suits you.

After 35+ years of 1.5-2 packs a day I must have just been ready to quit, the day I received my first Ecig, a GreenSmoke cigalike I never touched another cigarette...it'll be 4 years next month and I'm still amazed it happened this way, I loved smoking.

I made sure there was no chance I smoke again by using the highest strength available, I still use 24mg strength juice and a few at 18mg where 24 isn't available...I still like my nic buzz and a strong throat hit. I guess the moral of my story is, if you seriously want to quit the stinkies use a high strength juice, I see lots of people using 6-12mg and this just won't do it, for me these lower strength juices are like sucking wind and don't emulate smoking at all and can lead to cigarette cravings.

I quit smoking the night I ran out of cigarettes and opened a cig-a-like I had laying around just to get me through until the next morning. I was surprised how well it satisfied my nicotine craving and I never went and bought another pack of cigs. I think that's why I was able to quit immediately. I didn't have any smokes and would have had to go and buy more in order to have one. When the cartridge ran out on my little cig-a-like I had a choice, buy a pack of cigarettes or buy a pack of cartridges. I had already gone two days without a cigarette with no problem so I chose to buy the cartridges. Haven't had a cigarette yet.

Everyone's different but if you are an all or nothing type of person and you have those triggers I would suggest you get rid of any cigarettes you have so you won't pick one up and smoke it. You've said all was ok until that trigger hit so I think you'll be fine if you just don't have any cigarettes around to smoke. You'll reach for the vape instead. It will become the new normal for you and you won't believe you ever considered smoking those stinky, nasty analogs. Good luck and remember, if this doesn't work for you then by all means have a smoke until you can become adjusted to vaping only. Like others have said, it's not the ones you smoke but the ones you don't that matter.

When I got my first vape it was an ego c twist and some disposable vx brand clearos. The first week I would use my vape as much as possible vs actually smoking the traditional cigs but I did have one here and there. Far less than normal. The second week was easier no cigs until one day at work I had forgotten to recharge my battery before I left. Just before noon it ran dead and I was stressing. At about 2 oclock I had a half a normal cig :c.

After that incident I have not smoked a single cig and it's been a year and a half. Haven't even thought about smoking a normal cig and I honestly hate the way they smell and taste.

What mostly helped me was upgrading to a ipv mini v1 and a lemo drop v1. Much better vapor production and flavor. With more vapor production It means even running lower mg nic eliquids I will still get plenty of nic in my system for that buzz.

Now I have a little collection of mods, tanks, and rdas lol. I should never have to worry about a battery running dead because I have 10 of them and I always bring a little case that holds 2 freshly charged batteries and I always bring a 15ml bottle of eliquid when I go out for prolonged periods of time XD

Try your best to not smoke a normal cig and think to yourself, man these things taste horrible and smell like death. Why not vape on something that taste yummy and smells exquisite?
