Since this is the new member's forum, I thought I'd just briefly introduce myself. I started vaping (does anyone else think that sounds somewhat strange to say aloud?) about a month ago. I started with a kangertech protank mini 2 & a vision spinner VV rechargable battery.
Then, deciding it looked too much like a prop from the set of a harry potter movie, I started looking for something else. Not too long after I had started looking, a friend of mine posted about a magneto clone he'd gotten from fasstech on his blog. I started researching mechanical mods, and wound up buying a smoktech nnatural magnetic mod from the same shop that had sold me the first setup.
about 2-3 weeks after that, I went to change the coil out on my protank 2 and after doing so discovered that I was no longer getting a draw. Granted, I had used a tangsfire 1,500 mAh battery instead of the sanctioned unprotected IMR ones for a day or so, but I was new at that point, and didn't realize that it made a difference. I've since learned my lesson.
Wound up frying the wiring in the bottom of the natural magnetic, and the guy offered to exchange it for an ITASTE SVD after telling me that the natural was better suited to a rba than a protank and I shouldn't have been using a protank in the first place (the guy who sold me the setup at the same store never mentioned that once, and I specifically asked him if putting a protank on the natural would cause any issues). I wasn't as enthralled with the SVD as I had been with the natural; I kept getting all sorts of error messages, and had difficulties getting a draw once I went to change the coil. This was about a week ago today.
At this point, I decided a rebuildable was the way to go, and I realized that with what I'd spent up to this point, I could have easily just gotten something top of the line or close to, and I would have been done with the matter, had something that worked reliably, and had the aesthetic and features I was after - which is what I wanted all along.
So, yesterday, knowing that the store I'd gone to before didn't have what I was after, I tried a new place, but they didn't carry many mechanical mods or rebuildables, and I wanted a broad selection of premium goods. Made my way up to another store about an hour from where I live and wound up just doing what I probably should have done from the get go: bought a well made, genuine mechanical mod.
I had already ordered a smoktech RSST, so I figured I'd be set there for the time being, and I wound up buying a Mirandus mechanical mod. I've read that the "high(er) end" mods are often seen as a status thing and some treat them like doll collections, but I bought mine because I was tired of buying stuff that didn't work, and I figured even a quality clone might just put me back where I had been. I already have a ohm meter, wire, and steel mesh that are on their way to me with the RSST, and I've been reading/watching as many videos as I can to learn how to build coils without issues.
So that's my story. At this point, I'm here to learn as much as I can, but I figured I'd explain where I'm coming from. I know some of those decisions I made weren't the best, but I've never been the kind of guy to do things half way. As a result, I didn't want to drop the kind of money I did on the Mirandus, but like I said, with what I'd spent already and the limited success it had brought me, I figure I could have just got something well made from the start and been better off. I'm just cutting my losses at this point.
