Aside from the older vids on RB'ing the factory Naughty coils, @ToolmanTexas , what have you found in the way of instruction? Or, if you are doing this successfully, might you guide me/us?

I'm not familiar with the CLR type of coil...

You can always rebuild factory coils also and there is an CLR rebuildable type coil for nautilus. I expect to see more.

I've seen the VVTF one. Reviews seem to prefer the V1 over the V2 release. For me even working on that is kinda small for me to deal with. I'll admit if I'm going to coil and wick I'd rather have a full size build deck to do it on. I've seen videos of rebuilding the factory coils, and I doubt I could make it work. Maybe I just need more coil and wicking experience to feel confident working in such a little space.

@Katdarling, @Eskie,

I would definitely say that it is more challenging than building on a deck like an RTA is going to have but it can be done. I'm no expert on it for sure but have done it a few times using the older vids you mention Kat.

I certainly prefer an RTA for building BUT should the vapapocalypse occur (I dont think it will personally) then the option is there to rebuild factory coils.

The VVTF gets some varied reviews for sure and I'm personally hoping that a coil similar to the Ego One CLR is going to be released by Aspire for the Nautilus, as I find this style easier to rebuild than a pure factory coil.

Here is a vid of an Ego One CLR build. As said I'm hopeful that Aspire will release a similar coil for Nautilus/Triton mini:

If Aspire did something closer to the CLR, I'd be a lot closer to try and tackling it. I'm not sure they will, as it appears everything they are making is being designed to meet TPD rules, and using proprietary coils for each new tank release that are completely different from the past (look at the Nauti X and the upcoming Atlantis EVO).

Maybe a third party will come forward as VVTF did and offer a better RBA to fit Nauti coil tanks. There certainly are enough such tanks on the market that the need is there.

Their commitment to the Nauti/Triton mini coils via the K3 gives me hope that they are continuing to support and innovate on this coil standard. That's why I'm hopeful there will be a CLR for this coil. You never know but sure would be nice!

Well, if they do, I'll buy it. Given the dearth of MTL options these days, I'd love to keep these around.
I would too and am going to contact them about the option.

I do think there is a large resurgence back to MTL vaping (and still the majority option for those quitting the stinkies) and am seeing this in forums and in the devices being released by the major brands (Aspire K3, Innokin T18/T22, Ego AIO, etc.) as well as the HUGE success of the recent Kayfun mini V3 and Kayfun V5.

I hope it continues, especially in the RTA market. There are a handful, other than the KFs, that have decent MTL function. So many tanks are being released for dual coil interdimensional quantum Claptons to be run at 0.1 ohm with an integrated electric fan to boost air flow (surprised no one has tried that yet), that us lowly MTL tootlers still feel jilted.

I really think that trend of subohm is reducing, both from user request and coming regulations.

I've stocked up on at least 2 of the following:
  • Hurricane
  • Squape R(s)
  • Erl mini
  • KFV3 mini
  • KFV3 mini plus clone
Many others love the following (didn't work for me but more me than the device)
  • Taifun
  • Rose V2(s)
  • Ubertoot
  • Gob mini V1 (single coil)
  • Bellus (single coil)
  • Gem
  • Pico
I've got a Calix V2 in mailbox today :)

What was your opinion of the Ubertoot? Ive been eyeing it on focalecig. Supposed to be a very good flavor/MTL that is super easy to build. Only real negative I hear is the PMMA tank which some dont care for.

Honestly I couldn't get the flavor I wanted but I'm fairly certain it was me and probably my wicking. I didn't give it much time either.

I sold it to a guy who sold me his Hurricane. He loved the UT and I loved the Hurricane. Just shows there are so many variables.

I have considered getting another UT and giving it another go but with the really nice RTAs coming out with top fill (KFV3 mini, Kayfun V5 and Calix) I'm not sure I'm going to invest in any more bottom fill tanks.

I finally got the Gem built where I really liked it and then it started jumping ohms on me :(
This is a known issue with the clone for sure and I'm hopeful I can get it fixed but it is a device that takes a LOT of fiddling. But dang, it is such a sweet looking tank and gives really good flavor when built right.

:) So many variables is so true. Like the KFV3 mini for instance. Once you got things set to your preference it vapes great. It really is a good little flavor tank. The funny thing is I actually prefer bottom fill tanks. I dont really find top fill any more convenient. I still take it off the mod, close the air flow down and unscrew the top cap.... where with bottom fill I remove it from the mod, turn it upside down and unscrew the base. I just dont get the "more convenient" aspect to it. With bottom fill refilling I also get to view the coil and wick once the base is apart, and quickly clean any gunk building up up on the coil, or swab out excess dark juice in the chimney between refills, and I find bottom fillers (ones I use) less prone to leaking, but that just my experience. Dont get me wrong, many bottom fillers suck but the ones I settled on I prefer over top fill, as far as the refilling method with actual vaping performance being equal.
I dunno I guess I just dont view turning the tank upside down and unscrewing the base that big of a deal, but for others bottom fill is viewed as obsolete and would not consider one these days.

I don't remove my top fill tanks, I shut off JFC, fill and open JFC. Slightly more convenient but I still love my squape and hurricane (and Nautilus and kabuki)

Right now I have the Bellus (x2), Merlin(x2), a Squape r clone, and a KF mini plus clone inbound. I looked at the UT, but wasn't sure. I'm still playing with the Squape, but it does seem to have great flavor. I might think about the top fill Squape Dream but still want to play with the decks on this one first (S almost impossible to build and wick with cotton, but I finally got it, hoping the W is easier, and everyone says the B deck is the best). I have to look at the Calix and Hurricane as well.

I do love my Kabuki clone, though, and have about 5 boxes of Nauti coils already in the stash.

From what I have read the Dream is really geared towards a MUCH more airy draw (i.e. lower builds, cloud chasing) than the R(s).

The W is my favorite deck and has never failed me once and is super easy to build. The B deck is great for higher VG juice but tends to leak on me overnight.

The Hurricane, IMO, is a must have and the FT clone for $20 is a great way to try out and see if you like.

I do love my Kabuki clone, though, and have about 5 boxes of Nauti coils already in the stash.

No doubt, it's my goto clearo when I just want to pop a coil and go.

Oh well, then the Dream doesn't sound too terrific. I don't mind the fill on the R as I have syringes and blunt nose needles around. Only thing for me it honestly is a tad too high. Knock 1 or 2 cm off the height and it would be perfect. I also have to kick the wattage up just a tad due to that long chimney.
Get you an SXK R(s) clone, a good height on that one.
