I watched an actual lung breathing in cigarette smoke when I was in the Corp. It was geared at getting us Marines to stop smoking. The video of the folks opening the lung up after having this thing breath in cigarette smoke for a week was truly nasty. After the presentation we all huddled outside smoking and commenting how sick that was, but not a single one of us stopped lol. Smokers know what's going on they just have it in there heads that the damage isn't as bad as the withdraw IMO Took me many many moons after that to finally quit.

Well, OK. I find it helpful during quitting. ;-)

very interesting......I used to think about the damage I was doing to myself with smoking, the reality does not set in because we don't see it. Out of sight out of mind thing. Until later in life when we are short in breathe, coughing continuously on & on do we finally put it together. So glad to have quit the analogs and keep what good health I have with me.

One that I have to say got me... My father got emphysema when he was 80. But here's the full story. He smoked starting when he was 10, for 46 years. He smoked two packs a day. He then quit for 24 years. He then got emphysema. They don't talk about emphysema in our society - they talk about lung cancer. Cancer is a crap shoot. Emphysema is practically a sure thing. Some get it earlier, some later. But if a person who smoked a lot lives long enough, they will get it. I smoked for 35 years, so if I live to a ripe old age, I will no doubt be at risk at that point, too. It's the lungs dying of old age.

I wish more teenagers could know about this stuff before they start. I didn't know what emphysema was until I was 45 (after what happened with my dad).
