Need help from former MFS (MyFreedomSmokes) customers
Has any found a supplier or company that has tobacco e-juice like or very similar to MFS Turbosmog, Tall Paul, or Red Luck?
I've also had an end of the wire stick out past the insulator and short against the 510 connector. Caught that on the meter.
I've not yet run into an ego that didn't have short circuit protection. Which I've tested, both intentionally and unintentionally.
I run my PTs on a kicked mechanical, the kick provides the short circuit protection.
Ya it's "protected" by blowing the mosfet chip. (time to toss the eGo in the trash bin)
dont know... kinda reminds me of putting bicycle wheels on a dragster...![]()
Well, there's always good quality tanks and rebuildables. Anything can short or experience coil sag that leads to high amps. If it creates vapor there's always a potential short contributor inside. And then there's the alignment issues with anything that has a threaded connection. I've had things I screwed in that made the mod report a short.
My main concern with anything that has no safety devices is new user mishaps. The learning curve can be somewhat dangerous. Most of that comes from the "watch this! I made a .1 ohm coil!" or the "Look! I put two 18350's in my mech" syndrome. Oops, one of them was in backwards ...
Whether you are using a rebuild able or a changeable coil system on your mech, check your resistance and know the signs of a short. If your mod gets hot at any time, put it down quickly and allow it to cool then dispose of the battery and fix the short.
I recently experienced my first hard short. I was using an iclear 30 and it nearly melted down a Sony 30 amp battery. It measures at 2.4ohm but shorts on a mod. The mod got hot and the battery so hot it melted the wrapper.
JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE USING PREBUILT FACTORY COILS AND YOUR MEASURING A SAFE RESISTANCE DOES NOT MEA YOU ARE SAFE. KNOW THE SIGNS OF A HARD SHORT AND DO NOT USE BATTERIES THAT HAVE BEEN SHORTED.
have a safe holiday everyone!
It's possible for many clearos to have dead short problems. That's nothing new, and dates back to the old CE4/Vivi Nova days.
So should we blame the PV's, or should we blame the clearos?!? The most common short is cause by the coil not being centered, and touching the side of the metal tube.
Common sense told me to stop using clearos on a mechanical PV a long time ago. (they fried a lot of eGo batteries too)
I've made it to early retirement age and life is good. If my mod shorts (and it has several times) I want it to notify me with a simple message. No hot liquid and gas emissions, please! And no fireworks ... I've seen the pictures of those who ate an exploding tube.
I only know of one incident like that and the guy was using ICRs and stacking. I've never heard of any IMR or hybrid battery exploding in use. If you have any links I would love to check them out![]()
The guy wasn't using ICR's as it turned out. He was stacking unprotected 123s that he bought at radio shack.
But, it still put PureSmoker.com out of business! So one of the really great US made mechanical mods gone forever because of one persons stupidity!
Sometimes this place cracks me up.
tj, are you saying that was the incident that got PureSmoker? I've always wondered about it and never heard this from anyone before. Not doubting you, just want to make sure I understand correctly.
Yes, the guy was using an original style PureSmoker Prodigy.
For the record, the I clear 30 was fully factory, with the coil it came with. It ohmed out at 2.46 on my resistance meter about 15 minutes before the incident. I check my atties every day, I am not some uneducated kid playing with fire. I am only using it because the tank on my kraken broke and I didn't feel like dripping. I ohmed it when I got home after the incident and it still read 2.46 ohm. Tested on another mod it hard shorted again. The batteries and Atty have been disposed of.
Interesting what you say, because I have a good dozen mods here, ranging from cheap eGo's to expensive bottom feeders, and not one of them has failed on me because of the eletronics. The only failures I've had were mechanical (buttons, topper threads... that sort of things) due to shoddy Chinese workmanship. Similarly, I don't know any regulated mod user who's ever seen the electronics in their devices fail. Have you?
On the other hand, I hear of a lot of people melting springs and damaging batteries in mechs...
You did nothing wrong inanitydefined. I wouldn't have done more than check the clearo before using it either. Now that I've read about your experience I'm more aware of this and thanks for that
This can happen with pretty much any atty. I use rebuildables and that's why I do a last check on the mod before firing it when I can. Easy with drippers, never have figured out a way with cap-less attys like the Kayfuns.
When you guys say "hard short", you are saying basically the 510 connection shorted out against the mod topcap, right?
