I've put my plastic M-tanks into the boiling water, but not for the whole time -- usually just a minute or two, right at the end of the 15 minutes. (and always left the o-rings on... it didn't seem to hurt them a bit).

Andria
You wont wreck the o-rings but you will take some life out of them. O-rings will dry out and boiling accelerates that. Best to take them off before you boil and put them back on after.

The reason I leave them on is because the rubber or silicone or whatever it is, absorbs odor from the ejuice -- but I already discovered that soaking in alcohol with the o-rings on is VERY destructive to them; I figure the boiling water is somewhat less so than the alcohol, and will remove odor just as effectively.

Alcohol or boiling will wreck them but if they stink then you have to weigh the pros and cons. O-rings are cheap so if you wreck them so what. Hardest part is finding the right size. Then you can get a bag of 100 for a couple bucks.

I washed them with hot (not boiling) water and dawn, they are drying now, I'll give them a sniff test when I get home from work.

As for coils, I bought a toolkit and cotton bacon and even a couple of prebuilt coils from ebay, but forgot kanthal, so I guess for my first I'll have to cheat and use a prebuilt. Even so, I'm terrified I'll do something wrong.

Enough of the fear Stealthy. You will do perfectly fine. You should have done your prep work by now (watching videos, etc). You'll be fine. Keep us posted and ask questions if necessary.

I can't speak for pre-builts from Ebay, but I've used 30AWG 1.5Ω coils from Fasttech without any problems, and I'm sure the ones you have aren't significantly different.

Meter your build before you fire it, but after that, relax.

I'm working on getting the Achilles clean, and noticed that the ring with the air hole is REALLY loose, like I can spin it almost. Is everyone else's this loose? I can't see being able to keep the airflow set at all with it this loose.
The AFC ring is loose by design, until you tighten the barrel down over it. Are you familiar with Magmas? It works pretty much the same. You align the holes, forming your favorite crescent-moon shape, hold it with the finger of one hand while you tighten the barrel with the other.

... but you don't have to release the barrel's hold on the AFC ring when you open the topcap to refill, unlike magma (if Im remember that damn thing corectly)
Good point, you're remembering the damned thing correctly. Important other point: you must remove the top cap to refill, as opposed to refilling through the drip-tip (you'll get a leak through the chimney out the air inlet if you do). With the Magma, you can get away with a drip-tip top-off.

Well, sort of...the Magma has a way of leaking anyway for any/every reason.

Mostly because of those air ports being completely flush with the deck, I really think. Just ordered some 12ga needles the other day, to try and rectify the leaking -- I ordered a black Magma from eciggity, to go on my kbox mini, so I figured I'd better fix the leaking, that flat black kbox shows EVERY ejuice drip. :D Really hope that modification will fix that damned leaking and make my Magmas more usable.

You find a way to mod a Magma into not leaking and you'll have performed a miracle certain to reserve your place in the Vaping Hall of Fame--not to mention the accolades of Magma users across the globe, each instantly identifiable by their fingernails browned from years of e-juice crud hardening under them.

Heh... actually I read the technique someplace on ECF... I'll see if I've got the link bookmarked...

Yeah here we go... old thread from 2014 -> Magma RDA - lifting of air channels

So I can't take the credit, I just read it on ECF! :D

Welp...my first attempt at putting a coil on an Achilles. To start I'm using prebuilt 1.5 coils. Here is my first ever attempt at putting one on.

I hadn't realized how tiny this would be, my poor eyes aren't up to the task.

Anyway, when I first put it on, it measured 2.5 ohms. After I trim the excess next to the screws:

Odd.

Is this OK for a P2.5? Am I ready to try wicking it, or did I mess up?

Already wet, so this is the best I can do without making a mess:

The flavor seems muted compared to my Kabuki running Nautilus coils. Or maybe it just SEEMS stronger because the Nautilus coils may be starting to gunk up a bit, so I am mistaking the "bitter well used nautilus coil" taste for flavor.

Oddly, the little box thingy showed about 1.25 ohms, and the Provari shows 1.5. Raising the voltage from 3.5 to 3.7 helped some, maybe I should try raising a bit more. Thank goodness I'm on a nice regulated mod, I can't imagine being a newbie and playing around with this stuff on a mech.

edit: Oh wow!!! Took it up to 4 volts, an ENTIRELY different vape. Warmer, more flavorful, better (but not too much) throat hit. Totally night and day!
