Advice on Building a Vape

I'm somewhat new to vaping. I've really only been involved with some cheap tanks, eGo batterys, stuff like that.

I've become interested in obtaining a vape that does a few things:

  1. Gets a nice solid cloud (doesn't need to be massive) - I normally use 0mg or 6mg liquids fyi
  2. Will give me a solid 5 or 6 hours at least on the battery
  3. Isn't huge
  4. Would like to stay away from a box mod
  5. Costs me around $100 ish

I'm sitting on an AeroTank, so I've got that going for me. I've been looking into VV/VW mods, but I'm not too knowledgeable on the whole subject.

Preferably the unit doesn't require that much maintenance, or that much intensive maintenance.

Any advice you guys could give me would be great.

That's an option, that's not too big of a box mod. Any other opinions?

That is all i can come up with. in your price range. Are you looking to get into rebuilding? Even then. it looks like people are using RDA on it with success. If you are looking to spend some serious money. you could look at the Provari.

At this point in time, I would personally only consider devices between 40W-70W, unless you have been vaping for years and know that you will never go over 30W.

If you do not want a box-mod, maybe the Cloupor T5 at 50W will be right. It is kinda bulky, though, compared to a mech.

Just found this one, don't know it, but it looks a lot more sexy than the T5...

Do you really need 50W for a Kanger Aero Tank?

What type of maintenance is required on building coils? I'm not dumb by any means. I'm sure I would be able to do it, I'm just not too keen on doing maintenance every few days.

I never thought you are dumb, and i am truly sorry if i implied it. I was really trying to gauge if you where even interested in building your own coils. Anyone can build coils. it is fairly easy to do. You just want to make sure you are doing it safe. You should read this first:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-explain-dumb-noob-ohms-law-calculations.html

It will also change what mods people will recommend for your next one. It seems like once you get into building your own coils you start wanting more and more power.

No no, I meant that I should be able to do it, I don't consider myself dumb.

Anyway, what's the cost differential, on average, between building my own and buying, as well as what the advantages would be

My first step up from ego like devices was the MVP after year and a half it still works fine although I don't really use it anymore...there is the mvp2 now but you said you're not into box mods... since you said you want to stay under a hundred you can get the Evic which is $100 ..see which is variable voltage wattage, pass-through charging but also with replaceable batteries but it is on the larger side and only goes to 11 watts ...there is a 18350 tube available 3rd party... you could look at the vamo which is pretty similar but a lot less expensive no pass thru charging... are you open to clones? you may want to check out the Hana mini clone as a small box... Mechicanicals are smaller because there no chip and you can easily find one that comes with 18350/ 18500 /18650 tubes but you'll need a separate charger and will quickly want to get a rebuilable atomizer ... And then you'll need an ohm reader too

When you build your own coils and wicks, they are extremely cheap. However, buying them isn't that expensive.
The main benefit is performance. You can get much better results if you use better wicking materials and a coil geometry that works well, than if you stick to the off-the-shelf coil/wicks.

Pardon me for being new...

But a mech is essentially a fixed wattage and voltage correct? Based on the coil and the battery?

Also, what sort of mech clone should I be looking for?

A mech puts out the voltage that your battery is at. It is NOT fixed wattage by any means, since this entirely depends on the resistance of your coil (and whether or not you have a short!!!)

Get the Cloupor T50 it is not a box mod. It can go up to 50 watts. It takes 26650 battery so you can vape all day without having to change the battery. If you ever decided to start using RDA's or RBA's you can use it on this device. Price is around $85

If you want to go the box route I would suggest a Cloupor DNA 30. Nice and compact. Produces 30 watts. Multiple colors to choose from. Takes 18650 battery so you can vape all day without having to change. Price is around $70

So you are basically at the same point i am on your vaping journey. I just started getting into making my own coils. I just picked up a couple of cheap RDA clones, and have been using my iTaste vv v3 to test it out. The battery just doesn't have enough power. i am getting decent vapor, and better flavor than my Kanger tanks. I just want more. I believe in baby steps. So if you want to follow my advice. i would just pick up the Eleaf iStick. $30.00, 100ft of coil $7.50, a cheap RDA clone $27.00, and a bag of organic cotton $5.00. This will be the cheap intro to building your own coils. it is also a lot safer since the mod is regulated, and will not fire if you build something it does not like.
