Hello everyone!

I'm a hardcore gamer, programmer, and IT professional. I quit smoking already, but not because I hated smoking; I hated everything that was in the smoke that was killing me, and how it smelled.

I quit successfully this year, but on occasion, find myself a little tempted. Further, I came to the unfortunate discovery that my asthma, which vanished when I was 15 (because I'd started smoking), came back this past January after I quit. The nicotine to the lungs was controlling it better than any inhaler, so sayeth the doctor, but obviously he wasn't about to tell me to fall off the wagon.

I was big on the flavored smokes (cloves in particular, I went through the whole bad-poetry-on-a-napkin phase), and when I found Blu online, I thought I'd discovered the innovation for me.

Now, however, I'm confused. I'm not someone who wants to quit smoking who is looking for a healthier alternative, but instead, I'm coming from the other end of the spectrum. I'm someone who isn't smoking who is looking for a tobaccoless, tarless, ammonialess way to enjoy the effects of nicotine, both medically and recreationally. This is the opposite of the target market, so I'm not sure which of the many brands and styles of e-cig are for me.

I'm also a technophile so I can't deny I like the look. Also, now that I've kicked the desire to smoke real cigs, I can't stand the taste of normal tobacco, so the "classic" and "menthol" flavors probably won't appeal as much as the coffee-style flavors I've seen.

My primary concerns are reliability, economy of the cartridges, and flavor. I'm not all that worried about the initial cost as long as it's reasonable, so long as the long-term doesn't break the bank. I'd also like something that doesn't look so much like a cigarette, but holds like one (solid black, for instance), so I don't get people freaking out because I have it in my mouth in a restaurant (in my state, it's illegal to smoke in restaurants).

Corvus, I am a linux hacker / programmer by trade. First of all I have been vaping for about 2 1/2 months now, I quit smoking analogs after only two days. Naturally being a technophile which I am sure you are especially being a programmer I suggest you go straight to doing a mod a nicostick specifically. I started with a 510 and it is a good product but the battery on these standard cigarette form factors are just too weak for serious usage. I had to put together a mod today because my two month old batteries are down to about 25 minutes of life and swapping them to the charger every half hour gets old real quick.

Head over to the mods section of this forum and look at the battery mods area. Near the top you will see a nico stick thread. One of these can be put together in about a hour and blows away any standard off the shelf e cig for about 15 dollars in parts.

If you stick with vaping more than a month you will get tired of the puny batteries in the off the shelf ones anyhow.

they are right, i use SD mostly, 510 next, then 901 oem ( atty & battery)
i did get a bigger battery for the 510, and i`m wasting the autobat to make a SD adapter.
but if its for you, you wont know till u try it, and a good starter might be a 510, the three batts are two buttons and 1 auto. give you a mod feel...pushing a button, and at40$, plus the e-liquid i could but it from you if you dont like it :) hehehe
i do use the 510 seriously enough, when i go out it and the three batts come with me.

well thats good, but three batts and two attys at VS, i got the megabatt frow TW and just take the three man. batts when i go out, u get a pcc at cignot, so i guess its the same thing as having a xtra batt

Thanks everyone so far!

I'm going to take a look at those mods...chances are I am going to end up ripping it apart at some point and making it work for all sorts of things anyway...but in the shorter term, is the Joye 510 nobox kit from CigNot a good way to get started?

Yes that will certainly get you going and the parts can be used in a later mod. You may wish to also get some juice both VG Vegetable Glycerine and PG as some people cannot tolerate one or the other. This is especially important for you if you have respiratory issues such as asthma etc, I think cignot sells both.

I've decided to start with a kit, before I go into the headache of researching parts to build my own, to decide if it's as right for me as I think.

Am I better off to get the nobox kit from CigNot for the 510, with 30ml of cappucino or similar juice, 3 batts, two attys, 5 empty carts, pouch, and charger.....for $71

OR

a Joye510, 2 attys, 2 batts, 5ml java juice, 10ml Pure VG nic in Distilled Water, and a PCC, 5 pre-filled carts, and wall charger for $65?

That nobox setup with the pcc is a pretty good deal on cignot. I go through about 10 - 12 mils of juice a week I was a pack a day smoker if that give you any idea of what to expect.

CorvusDrake,

Yes the 510 no-box starter kit from Cignot would be my advice. Through in some extra juice and you're underway.

The mods are basically fancy battery packs. You'll generally need to supply your own atomizer anyway so a starter kit doesn't waste much money if you go that route latter.

You can get 510 parts in several colors if you shop around. I buy replacement parts is different colors so I know which parts are older.

Black and White are matte finish while the others are smooth and glossy. The glossy finish is helpful. When it's in your pocket you can feel which end is the battery.

The Janty stick looks nice also. It looks like a little cell phone or ipod.

CorvusDrake,

You can always order more parts latter if you're happy with the 510. If you use it a lot you'll want more batteries and replacement atomizers.

I got a $35 kit last week just for the parts. The atomizers and batteries are worth $36 and I get an extra charger which is handy.

The PCC is cool. I carry one complete e-cig + 3 carts and a battery. As someone else pointed out you can just as easily carry a few batteries and a bottle of juice and save the $25. The PCC does double as a 2nd charger which is handy in prime time.

get a 510 or 901, and don't forget the USB pass thru as well as atleast 30mg of eliquid in a flavor you think you'll enjoy... i like the flue cured tobacco flavors.

then you'll see the need for a battery mod, you can make your own or buy some really nice retail mods.

just hang out and check the modders forum especially the battery mod section
