Yes, the tastes vary, and some of them can burn your throat. Unfortunately, I don't have anything to say about brands, I make my own. And yes, stopping smoking is the point. Welcome to the board.
If you have local vape shops where you live I highly recommend you visit them. Most will have a "flavor bar" where you can taste test their juice before you buy.
Once you have a better idea of what flavors you like then you can look at buying online.
I totally agree with suprtrkr and Susan~S above. Vape isn't as idiot proof as a cig and lighter that one size fits all. It will take some trial and error to find your sweet spot, or comfort zone. I went away from tobacco flavors when I first quit.
I totally agree with trying your local vape shop. Beyond the obvious benefit of tasting before you buy and supporting your local economy, you will want a relationship with a real, live person. Advice as you upgrade, hands on help when you get into building and the incentive of having a fun person to talk to in your journey to quit smoking. Please do remember what you taste in store will be a little different when you add nicotine. As your set ups advance and you move to lower OHMs you will use less nicotine and the bitter throat burn will lessen.
