Howdy all, this is my fitst trip over here from the newbie section.
I'm in need of some advise on what mods I should be looking at.
Here's my story.. I'm 60 years old and have been a heavy smoker for 48, while in the hospital for two weeks in January I decided to give this vaping thing a try, For all those years I smoked cigarette's cigars and pipe, I liked STRONG tobacco with lots of smoke. I started out with kanger's top evod kit, wasn't cutting it, bought a kanger subvod kit, better but not quite there.. I am MTL type but being a cigar lover I like a good deal of smoke with some oomph !
I don't need to blow huge clouds but I know I need some vapor density and good flavor. I know I need to step up to some thing better I just don't know what. I don't need over complicated but I need quality.
Nearest vape shop to me is 60 miles away so I'm stuck with just internet reviews. I haven't had tobacco since Jan. 5th and I'd like to keep it that way. What would ya'all recomend for this old confused cowboy ??

Sounds like a restricted DL situation. Almost mtl but in need of more oomph. You can smoke almost anything as mtl if you can restrict the airflow without burning up. It’s not that common a situation though so finding a coil cartridge system that meets your needs may be difficult. Id look at wta juices like 5 pawns black flag, though getting the flavor and nicotine density you want may mean youre eventually going to have to DIY.
I think what you wnat can be done. Its just not a common profile and may need the customization that coilw wrapping and DIY juice provide

You will like to get the original Uwell Crown tank

Uwell Crown Sub-Ohm Tank | Vape Tanks

And you'll want to try all the coils, they make a 0.25 ohm, 0.5 ohm and a 1.2 ohm for power mode.

You might end up liking the .5ohm coils but that's just a guess.. if not then the 1.2 ohm coil will be for you.

The airflow is adjustable on the tank. You'll be using that to your best effect.

You can get replacement coils at element vape but they DON'T have the 1.2 ohm coils. So, here are the .25ohm and .5ohm coils at element vape:

Uwell Crown Replacement Coils 0.25ohm 0.5ohm (Pack of 4)

And here are some 1.2ohm coils on sale at origin vape:

Uwell Crown Tank Coil Heads 4-Pack - Final Sale - Origin Vape

There are a couple different choices for mods that are quite good. But honestly one of the best single battery mods is the Geekvape Aegis.

Geek Vape Aegis 100W TC Box Mod | Single 18650/26650 Device

It's waterproof and shock proof and military grade.. if your gonna drop it from time to time or might otherwise be hard on your mod then this is the way to go. The chipset awesome quality too.

There is another mod I'm thinking of that is just plain simple to operate and very durable but it's a little pricier:

Squid Industries Double Barrel 2.1 150W Box Mod | Vape Device

You will need some batteries (usually two or three for a a single battery mod or four for a double battery mod) and a charger (I would recommend xtar chargers) and for those you will want to shop at Liion Wholesale or IMR batteries. (I never buy batteries from vape shops, I always recommend going straight to a reputable liion battery wholesaler, that way you always know what your getting)

You should use Mooch's recommended battery chart to choose batteries from which I will give you a heads up and recommend either the Sony VTC5A from the 18650 category or the Vapcell 26650 battery.

Vapcell 26650 32A Flat Top 4200mAh Battery - Genuine

^^ the 26650 size battery can only be used in the Aegis. The squid industries double barrel is 18650 batteries only.

Sony VTC5A 30A-35A 2500mAh Flat Top 18650 Battery - Genuine - Wholesale Discount

The Vapcell will give a longer runtime in between charges if you choose the Aegis and allow you to vape at higher wattages than the Sony would. I don't necessarily think the ability to vape at higher wattages is a selling point, but run time might be.

If you purchase the Double Barrel you will need four of the Sony's..

I'd suggest a crossover tank like the original Crown, too. You have lots of coil options, and for a tank that can provide a lot of vapor it still gets great reviews for flavor. You can close down the airflow (if needed) or even look at a more restricted driptip (if needed). If you find the right coil for you, this could be a great tank, and it gives you a lot of resistance options. I almost bought one, but I am so MTL it really wouldn't make sense for me, but from what I hear, it's a winner as far as a crossover tank.

Best of luck!

Anna

Good advise here, I will be looking into every thing any one points me to. One of my best friends passed away last night so it will be a few days before I can really start digging into stuff but thank you all. Keep the good info coming .. God knows I need it.

Hi Stitch. Sorry to hear about your loss.

From what you said, it sounds like I wouldn't go with an e-Liquid that is High in VG. Because VG is Great for making Vapor. But it can Mute Flavors and Throat Hit.

PG is what carries the Flavor. And Helps with Throat Hit.

What VG to PG are you using Now? And what Nicotine Level is it.

Right now all I have are 70 and 80% PG I was thinking about trying 50/50 in the sub tank I have. As far as nic. In the +ohm devices I use 18mg, in the -ohm device I use 6mg. What would you reccomend ?.. I do find myself chain vaping at times.

Thank you All for your kind words and thoughts. Even though it is hard to lose such a great friend there will be no tears in our beers, we are a pretty narley bunch of cowpunchers, loggers and mountain guides up here, And our departed freind was as narley as they come, But no better friend was there. We will make sure is widow is ok and taken care of and then we will gather to raise our whiskey glasses to him, tell stories ang lies about him and celibrate his life. We will watch over his widow like a bunch of mother cow's for the rest of her days

I know you weren't specifically addressing me so i hope you don't mind my chiming in a little.

I believe 50/50 is fine for the subtank.. it should still wick properly with that mixture.

As for nicotine i recommend listening to your body. Your going to have some withdrawal symptoms in the first couple months of vaping with the first month being the worst of it..

However, with enough nicotine the symptoms of withdrawal will be more mild and something you can fight.

Everyone chain vapes in the beginning though, it's the hand to mouth thing that is getting you through withdrawals.

So with that in mind, pif you feel your not getting enough nicotine then raise your levels to 9mg when you run below ohm and 24 when you run above ohm and see if you do a little better on that.

Many people vape up to 12 mg in a small set up like you have for below ohm and up to 36mg for above ohm higher wattage vaping, so your fairly low in how much nicotine your getting compared to some people..

You know your body best..just listen to it..

    Nice avatar..

If you are at 70 or 80% PG right now, 50/50 might not have the same Flavor/Throat Hit. But it would give you a little More Vapor. It would also be a Little Smoother.

I would Pick up a Small Bottle of 50/50 in a Flavor that you like. You might like it Better. No real way to know unless you try it.

Some Chain Vaping is Very Common with people when they first Quit smoking. It can be a sign that their Nicotine Level is a Tad Low.

It also happens because e-Liquids Don't have all the Added Chemicals that they put into Cigarette Tobacco. So you might be getting the same amount of Nicotine, but your body/mind still craves those Added Chemicals that aren't present anymore.

Buying some 9mg/ml might help some. Or if the 18mg/ml is the same Flavor as the 6mg/ml, you could add 1 Part 18mg/ml to 3 Parts 6mg/ml and that would make 9mg/ml.

Yep I was thinking about upping my nic level a tad just to see if it helped. The hand to mouth thing is still pretty bad but hey it aint' a cigarett.

After looking into all of this the crown tank and the Aegis look like a good way for me to go. I do tend to rough on stuff and it doesn't seem to be over cmplicated.

Yeah... Finding your "Sweet Spot" will take a little trial and error. But trust me, you will get there Sooner than you might think.

It's the Only real Downside to e-Cigarettes/e-Liquids, that there are an Almost Limitless amount of possible Combinations of e-Liquids/Flavors/Hardware/Watts/Ohms/etc.

But that is Also the Upside. Because One Size doesn't fit all. And a person can Fine Tune the Hit they get to Exactly what they want.

I have been doing the same thing, Stitch45, moving from cigs to vaping. I assumed when starting out that I would do best with things that sort of imitated smoking - tobacco flavors, tobacco and coffee, tobacco and bourbon, etc. Oddly enough for me I am finding that rich good flavors in satisfying density is what I like, not the tobacco imitations.

So right now I am using Banana Bondage and Custard De Leche as my favorites, with bright fruit liquids as a refresh break. I typically am switching between 3-4 flavors everyday. The variety keeps the palate from getting over saturated and developing "flavor tolerance". So be open to what flavors you might enjoy.

As to the type of equipment to use, I think it depends whether you want easy "Plug and Play" types or you enjoy tinkering and being able to tweak things, while saving some money. If Plug and Play, go for the cartridge options that you just screw in and have no coil / wick worries. You might look at one of the SMOK kits for the easy peasy route. If you want to dive in more, go for the rebuildable options.

Yep, I'm getting ready to order a variety of juices and start finding what works best for me. I do like to tinker and I do like to be in control of things, that's why I'm doomed.
