Sounds like the OP may be leaning towards a genesis because of personal preference.
Me, I would advise starting your rebuildables career on a regulated mod for now. I return back to my MVP2 suggestion. It'll shut itself down if you have a short. The ohm reader is integrated so you wouldn't need to buy an ohm checker separately. If you go for an RSST or similar and enjoy it with the MVP2, if that's what you go with, then maybe consider a mechanical. I've been rocking the Provari for 6 months now and haven't had the desire for a mech. Not because I feel they're inferior, I just like having the protection the Provari offers, both for me and for itself. A Provari will never (99.99999%) blow up in your face. Incorrectly done, a mechanical can. Do your research, make an educated decision and rock it all day long man. I've been looking into the Zenesis sidewinder mechanical, with it's crazy price tag, but they're so sweet looking. I'm also holding out for the new ZNA mods that are slowly being produced. Gorgeous DNA30 device.
The genesis atty's ARE capable of massive vapor, rivaling some drippers, like I said before.
In my opinion, the flavor is rather harsh from citrus or berry flavored juiced, but flavors like vanilla and caramel, somewhat softer flavors, you can ramp up your volts and take a super smooth it and exhale enough to fog up a room. It's really incredible, and so is the taste. My MBV blueberry is a little tough to vape on it, but I have some banana on the way, which shouldn't be as harsh. Caramel candy and French vanilla were a dream. As was hawk sauce.
Using 100% VG, I dilute it with distilled water, allowing it to wick fast enough to keep up with the high volts I'm running on a moderate ohm level. It keeps up
