I just ran out of my original batch of magic I twisted up last week and went for round two. I started out with 3 individual pieces of .6 x .07 at about 3 feet each. The wire snapped at the chuck no less than twice on each piece. When it snapped, the wire twisted back up on itself. I think I need to let the tension off sooner and more often. Again, I didn't back twist the 3 pieces far enough with the drill and ended up finishing it by hand. It turned out much better this time than the first time. I used the magnifying glass on my helping hands for the back twist this time. I might need to invest in a jewelers loupe for this because I still had trouble seeing the wire. I ended up with about 2 feet of wire with few flaws and it looks like almost all of it is usable.
After having some time with this wire, I can say this is probably the best vape I have ever had. I usually do 28 gauge or double 30 gauge micro coils at about .8 ohms. I found my sweet spot with this wire at 4 turns on a .055" mandrel slightly spaced apart and wicked with organic cotton for about .6 ohms. The vapor isn't as hot as I would expect from the increased power level going into the coil. At .8 ohms it seemed a little on the cool side. At .6 it is full and moist and just warm enough to feel it. I do find myself doing a quick primer puff before a nice 2 or 3 second mouth to lung hit and then repeating that within a few seconds.
I've tried three different juices with this set up and the flavor this wire delivers is all there. I had a Trident dripper set up with dual 30 gauge coils weighing in at the same ohms on a Magneto for side by side comparison. I'm not very articulate when it comes to describing flavors, so I'm just going to tell you that I prefered the magic for each juice, hands down. The three juices were Copper Creek House Blend, Xobeloot's NEMP and my DIY RY4 recipe that my son and I have dubbed "cat piss" (because that is exactly what it tastes like if you vape it before it steeps for at least a week).
One thing I have found is that these coils do not like to change flavor, even with a good dry burn. I dry burned and scrubbed the coil with a toothbrush under the tap and it still took several ml of the incoming juice before it gave up the last flavor. I have taken to just changing out the coil when changing the flavor to avoid the flavor confusion.
Anyway, this is getting long. My camera isn't working right and as it turns out, my phone camera is worthless for macro shots, so I don't have any pictures to share right now. In closing, this in now my go to. That is good and bad. It is good, because the vape is so good. It is bad because it is more time consuming and labor intensive to prepare. The trade off has been worth it so far.
