If everything goes right I don't get hot spots. Once I started counter twisting by hand it's given me very even and consistent interlocking. I always dry burn a good 3 or 4 long holds to get the coil to have a nice distributed and even glow.

I had an rm2 that one post was drilled out wonky, and the screw had a hard time making a solid connection, that led to hotspots and arcing.

I hear you on flavoring, when I DIY my total flavoring is 3-5% and my wife cuts her favorite flavor by 60%

Hmm, maybe it's my shoddy post hole drilling. I'll have to look carefully at them next time I rebuild.

5 wraps around a 2mm bit gave me 0.9 ohms. Had to use a 50W mod at 26 watts to give me good heat up time. Hohums.

Is this coil an insta-gunkfest?
It depends on what you vape with it. I vape unflavored mostly so it never gunks. It seems to never gunk with clear and light juices but same for any other coil, right? The only juice I vaped that gunked it up was stripper cake. I want to say it was a week or so before I rewicked and dry burned to freshen it back up.

Hey Mr. Mundy! Hi! Hello! GOing to spin up some of your amazing wire this weekend and test it on the Nuppin' Atty. Will be an interesting project. Me thinks i'll need to thread the center post then wrap both sides once the center is tight.

We will see! If I have time I guess... Going to watch some Punkin' Chunkin' this weekend.... Maybe i'll have time.

Got a DNA40 board to test out this new fangled temp stuff.
Can't get the ribbon wire I want in Nickel without buying 4 digits worth, so what to do?

I tried 3 strands of 32 gauge twisted tight 14 wraps on 1.2mm .11 ohms
Would bounce between 25 and 32 watts set on 400F
Not impressive in the flavor department.

However since I had a few extra moments I just twisted some ribbon and 32 gauge then made MM out of it.
6 wraps was a little low in the ohms so I just made an 8 wrap on 1.2mm (all I had left of the test sample).

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

.08 ohms room temp, tight KGD, 450F, stays about 35 watts and tastes great! :)

Gots to go now, but after I build the DNA40 squonker I'll refine it more.

Mundy you have just made a revolution if that works. Are you telling me i can shove in nickel with anything and TC would work :D. Glad the Magic Mundy name will live on ...

The Kanthal will theoreticaly throw the temp sense off a little, but in this case shouldn't be much. The key is the resistance of the Nickel being so much lower. MM that I typically make is 5.5 ohm per foot and an 8 wrap on 1.2MM gives right at .9 to 1 ohm, but the Nickel is giving less than .1 ohm. If I get the time I will do the math to see how much of an effect it has but I am guessing maybe 10 degrees Fahrenheit at 450F setting. Also, the tight coupling of the wire is necessary or else it won't transfer the heat to the Kanthal. I am going to get some 34 gauge Nickel as I suspect it would be closer to ideal twisted in there like this. Also need to figure out how to make the loops open up a little more. The center Nickel wire is preventing them from opening as much as I would like. Work has prevented me from modding much and I hope I can find the time to work on this.

Got a few minutes to do the math and play with Excel.
I took into consideration both the temperature coefficient of Ni200 and of Kanthal A.
There is more deviation than I thought, but with it known it is usable.
Here is a chart for the particular HMM I made.
(Note that it is not a perfect linear relation, but close)
Set to 450F the temp regulation (Don't really care what Brandon calls it, it's just semantics) will actually be 510F.
Set to 400F should give 450F in reality.
That is the theoretical math of it anyway.
