All alcohol taste the same since quitting smoking.

Since I quit smoking and started vaping I noticed I can taste and smell things better than I used to...everything except liquor!

I used to love Crown Royal Black, Sailor Jerry Rum, Kraken Rum and a few other whiskeys and rums, but now it all smells and taste like rubbing alcohol to me. Before I stopped smoking I could easily spot the differences in anything I drank, but now it just all taste and smells very bad to me for some reason.

Part of the reason why I can't taste the notes and spices in Liquors is because I don't drink nearly as much as I used to ,but I think quitting smoking is the main reason for this. Maybe I should try some of the micro brew beers I used to love just to see if it has the same effect.

I did notice that Jagermeister still taste and smells like it should.


I was just wondering if any other ex-smokers has had the same effect with not being able to taste and enjoy liquors.

I have noticed a lot of different beers starting to taste somewhat similar, but it may just be that I enjoy the same style of beers (Blue Moon, Leinenkugel summer shandy). I havent had much issue with the harder stuff, although i dont drink whisky and the like often enough to be able to tell the difference in the first place.

That is one terrible side effect! I haven't had that problem but I drink very seldom. Colors light or Old Crow still just fine

I found that shots are easier since I quit smoking. I have always inhaled drink the shot and exhale that's the best way to drink shots IMO wont take your breath away. On that first inhale after the shot I would weez for a bit. I don't have that problem anymore even drinking shots of 190 proof. Now that's for liquor, beer is another story Beer in a can now tastes like the can to me. Thank goodness my favorite beer is Corona Never drank it if there wasn't a line wedge in it though now I can drink it without and even when its warm.

I only drink sour mash or small batch bourbons. I can easily taste different 'rikk' numbers. I haven't had a cigarette in over three years though. Back then I drank junk & it all tasted the same.

A couple of my whiskeys now taste like gasoline, however my single malt scotches now taste far better. I can now taste and smell all of the different undertones.

I hadn't had that issue. I was really scared to drink after switching to e-cigs because analogs and liquor always went hand in hand for me. But I found that I actually started to like a wider variety of drinks than what I was used to. Better taste buds, I guess..

I quit drinking before I quit smoking, but I bet the alcohol now tastes stronger than it did before. I used to love spicy food, but since I quit smoking, I can't even get through a bag of wasabi peas anymore.

Smell and taste change DRAMATICALLY after giving up cigs. For me, it was a back and forth thing while my body recovered. It didn't all come back and STAY back at once.

Oh wow, I hope this never happens to me. I was scared to drink, after quitting smoking, but living in bourbon country, that didn't last long! The small batch bourbons that I like to drink still taste wonderful to me. (Try Elmer T. Lee, if you can find it, it's simply sublime.)

I like many of you have also found a difference. My thing is I cant drink the low end stuff now it just has a real funny taste. I guess the money I save on analogs now has to go for better booze.....

I'm more of a rum guy myself but I certainly had to move up in rums to enjoy it. The old stuff just tastes like crap once you can taste again.

Kinda the same for foods what once was good may come off as over spiced or underwhelming for any number of reasons.

I haven't tried it with the strong stuff, but the "wine" is fine with vaping. It is weird what our taste buds do.......

I'm only right over a month quitting smoking and now wine tastes STRONG to me. I used to think it tasted like Kool Aid. So I'm drinking less, for sure

Even though I wasted my money on something I can not drink, at least I possibly turned on another person on to vaping. The guy working in the liquor store noticed I was holding my svd with kayfun (how could anyone not notice something so big lol) and wanted to know "if it works?" .

I said to him "I wouldn't be doing it if it didn't work" Then I gave him a list of places locally and online to buy vape gear. Everyday I meet at least 2 or 3 smokers who want info on vaping. Most of them have only tried gas station ecigs and never knew there was anything better. I was one of those people not very long ago. Soon I will have my entire city off cigarettes LOL.

You may actually be a "super taster". I had no idea I was until I quit smoking. I thought I just didn't like certain foods.
