Hey ECF. This is my first post so sorry if i screw it up. I've been vaping for abt 2 months now and I'm definitely hooked. I never want to taste another analog in my life! But over the last 2 weeks I have become extremely frustrated. First off, my rig is a standard Evo 650mah. So far I've tried CE4s, a kanger t3 bcc, and (due to an unpleasant experience with a brand new CE4) ive even stuck some Blu cartos on there with both the pre-loaded fluid and some Vapor-Renu blueberry cheesecake. The problem I am CONSTANTLY running into is an absolutely awful burnt taste. My first CE4 didnt have the problem for the first 2 weeks, then it swooped in in an overpowering way. So I did some research and ordered a Kanger T3 with 2 replacement heads from myvaporstore.com. At first it was GREAT. after about a week it developed the same burnt taste, so i changed the atty.It immediately tasted like burnt crap, and had very poor vapor production. So i set it aside to try a rewicking and stuck the oher replacement in. 2 hours later i had the same problem. My 2nd CE4 (both purchased locally) tasted burnt on puff numero uno, which led me to pick up some Blus and i've just ordered an Evod with very high hopes. Unfortunately the Blus are beginning to taste scorched as well.

Now about me and my vaping habits. Like I said, I LOVE vaping. "Chain vaper" doesnt even sum it up i dont think. Basically if im not jamming on my PS3 im vaping almost constantly. I can sit and watch TV for hours and never set my PV down, except for a quick refill or charge. Is this why I keep having this burnt taste? I need a delivery system that I can rely on, that CONSISTENTLY produces thick clouds of vapor and accurately presents my chosen flavor. This scorched crap taste has got to stop. I switched mainly to save money, but also to be healthier. In the last week I've spent more than I like on new atty systems andhavent been satisfied yet. I rlly like clearos, not too hot on cartos based on the ones ive tried (Blu), and i am on a tight-ish budget for now. Please if anyone can suggest a better and more consistent delivery system please do. This irritation is starting to get the better of me, but i really dont wanna go back to Newports.

The pros will be along to get u straight. I'm a noob. So hang in there, the Calvary is on its way....

I generally rinse my clearomizer with warm water and pulse dry burn the coil to get rid of the build up on it when it starts to not taste right. Also darker liquids tend to build up faster. I haven't had to replace any heads in my vivi novas since I started vaping 10 weeks ago, but I have 3 vivi novas and a protank so not just using 1 constantly.

I prefer top coil vivi nova minis but my protank which is very similar to an evod is a close second.

Welcome!! You can't screw up a post so no issues there. Chain vaping shouldn't be the reason why you're getting the burnt taste. I'm not all that technical and I don't know much about the T3 or CE4 so I'm not going to be much help. It's probably a combination of things and sometimes it depends on the juice and voltage. I use cheap Stardust clearos and they do get that burnt taste after several refills but I get a lot of use out of mine before I have to toss it.

i use the kanger t3, a few thinks you may try. if vapor gets lower try putting the coil head in boiling water for about 5 minutes then do a dry burn like previous post. or let it dry for a day.i have noticed that sometimes after doing this i get a burnt taste . try taking the center post off and moving wick up off coil then replace wick then the post. this has worked for me

On the T3 you can remove one of the flavor strands that sit on top of the coil for faster wicking (a bit of a slippery slope as you can run into gurgling and flooding doing this), and with the CE4 if it's the changeable coil you can trim about an eighth of an inch from the silicone cap that sits over the wicks to prevent it from "choking" them. As suggested above I would definitely clean first, and work on the draw.

I'd like a unicorn too.

Seriously, there is a lot of unavoidable trial and error with vaping. What works terrific for one person may not for another. And, as posted earlier, one's vaping style can have an impact too - slow draws, fast draws, deep, shallow, etc. My advise to new vapers is to get as many different delivery devices you can afford and experiment with them.

Do you have more than one battery? If you do, are you having the same issues when you use another one? This is a complete stretch, but I'm sometimes not convinced generic eGo batteries always fire at the regulated voltage they are supposed too.

Hi TheBull.

Do you know what your PG/VG ratio of your liquid is? If so that would help us get you to the right place.

Your draw style is next. Im guessing stiff, long draws...... The Stiffer the draw the more you will feed the bottom coils, but only if you have them setup for your style . You may want to do a search for "removing flavor wicks t3" most of my t3 clearos had to have one or both of them removed for proper performance. If you starve the wick/coil it will promote the buildup of charred liquid and allow you to get that burnt flavor....... Also search "dry burning t3" to see how to clean and dry burn them so you can use them again. This will remove the buildup gunk on the coil that is causing the bad taste. There is nothing in a t3 or any of the other silica wick clearos that can burn aside from the rubber insulator at the base. You may just need to open them up and give them a cleaning and dry burn to revive them back to use. I normally get about ten to fifteen days of use from the t3s with about 6-10ml of liquid being used per day...... so yes I understand your "chain vaper" proclamation....

As far as the top coils most of them can be taken apart and cleaned also, but the basic ones are a pain in the .... to take apart because you have to work through where the mouthpiece screws into. Remove the silicone capover the wicks, then the metal ring so you can see the coil.....follow same procedure to rinse and dry burn. The one that started foul may just be a bum coil but unless you can see it you will never know for sure.

I would suggest you take a look at cartomizer tanks to get you into something that you can tailor to your personal draw style and feeding requirements. There are tons of options from near $10 up to and beyond $100..... there is something for everyone, you just have to be wiling to look for it. Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

Wow. Thanks for the lightning fast responses everyone. Brock, you just changed the game for me. I was going about vaping in the entirely wrong way. I thhought the harder I pulled the better my vape would be but after checking a couple vids I discovered I was simply vaping faster than my wicks could handle, which (I'm guessing) is what was causing me to burn them. I just switched to a new Blu carto and tried some slow, steady puffs and had better vapor production and a MUCH better taste. Hopefully my stupidity will prove to have been the only real problem. Thanks so much.

Carto tanks have piqued my interest and I think my next purchase will be one of these. Which one should i try first?

Unfortunately I only have the one batttery as of now (sold by a company called Lizard Juice). I can't decide if I want to go ahead and pick up an Ego VV Twist or save up for a Joye Evic (Im leaning towards the latter atm).

Both my cheapies measure 3.8-3.9V with a multimeter (they seem to drop off towards the end of a charge). But I've no idea what they were "supposed to" output since the one did not come with that info and the other came with no info at all (bare battery, no packaging)!

A cheap digital multimeter can be had for about 12 dollars (link for reference purposes only - I have one of these and while it doesn't give the most reliable readings, it gets the job done) and might be something worth having for troubleshooting ohm/voltage combos. Here's a youtube vid on using one for vaping: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgXAmPBAO5g

It's never a bad idea to have a Joyetech Twist or a Vision Spinner as a back-up (for your back-up, for your back-up, for your other back-up ;)) You'll find most vapers have them in their arsenal somewhere. You'll notice I used the brand names. They aren't much more expensive than generics and people tend to report less problems with them.

A carto tank is basically just a tube, it's the carto you put inside of it that makes the difference, For the battery you are using now, I would recommend a single coil 2Ω. That's what I started with on my 650mAh standard eGo and that resistance works fine on my Twists and mods as well.

Hi TheBull.

Do you know what your PG/VG ratio of your liquid is? If so that would help us get you to the right place.

I'm currently vaping 50/50 fom VaporRenu. I did try removing one of the flavor wicks in one of the T3s and immediately had flooding issues. I'd get 5-10 good vapes before having to remove the clearo, take off the atty, and swab out the center tube w a q-tip. That quickly became a pain in my a**. I also rewicked them using cotton cheesecloth as i had read on a thread here, which yielded fantastic results for about a week, then the atty quit on me altogether.

I've tossed my last CE4 I purchased Monday and decided im done with top coil clearos. I'll stick with BCCs, and plan on tryin some carto tanks soon. And maybe one day I will experiment with dripping, but that is probably a long way off still. Thanks guys for all the help. I'm feeling better about this already.

Joyetech regulated eGos fire at ≈3.3v. Generic regulated eGos supposedly fire at 3.7v. Unregulated models supposedly come off of the charger at 4.2v which lowers as the battery discharges. I have heard they go down to the 3.7v range and stay there awhile, before going all the way down, but I have no way of verifying that. I also doubt it's consistent with all of the eGos manufactured by different companies.
