Not fine enough, you want #200-#400 or perhaps even finer. Stainless Steel Woven Wire Mesh in A4 sheet format: 304, 316, 316L

Meant to say earlier. Gummi, Jens, looking real nice there :)

300-400 mesh ist the best
200- ist very throat hit
-500 is a vapour bomb with very low throat hit

Look this:

a µm(my) to mesh table is here http://www.fuhr-gmbh.com/mesh.htm

poland, and the brassy lands of google
OK I still haven't ordered mesh, I'm waiting til another package arrives with some nichrome (paranoid that customs has it and will send it back). I don't ever really want to do a cart/depot mod with #200 mesh, raidy, might it be a waste for using 200 for a wick? It seems more 325 would be more worthwhile. One gets 3 sheets for the price of 2 at the site mentioned above...

That #325 may be a tad too coarse for great vapor, and at their site they longer seem to have it.

This 'Mesh #500', from the same outfit is probably a good choice, but pricey.

Stainless Steel Type 304 Mesh #500 X 500 .001" Wire Diameter 12" x 24" - SmallParts.com
that's 2 square feet though, only $15 a square foot, but they are out of the other size. I wish the shipping wasn't so pricey from The Mesh Company: Online Shop for Woven, Knitted and Perforated Mesh for Art, Craft, Floristry, Modelling and Engineering in the UK($20), because their price is about $10 for 1 A4 sized sheet of any mesh and $20 for 3 sheets, but figuring in shipping makes it a bit too much unless you are buying bulk.

Raidy -

Wow. You are the man. Fascinating thread - enough reading to make my eyes bleed.

I'd like to get your opinion on an idea. Can the atty be mounted in a plastic lid? My thoughts are to mount the atty in the lid for a plastic bottle, like the juice comes in. That way all you have to do is screw on a new bottle. Even a small glass bottle with a metal lid? Then instead of running the power leads through the juice tank, they can come from an outside source. Like a side-by-side configuration?

I wondered if the base of the atty gets too hot for plastic?

I did that for my test bed. Chain vaping might be a problem with a plastic lid because the residual heat would build up and possibly melt, but I've been using a crude rendition of the genesis for 3 days using an 8ml bottle with a small hole for the mesh and two holes tapped for coil connection. I used a bunch of washers to keep the actual kanthal away from the plastic.

If the distance between the "hot parts" are more then 15mm away from plastic, you can do it.
But please: Selfmade atty's should always be better made then the ..... from china!

I'm playing with a "home made" ceramic top. Unbelievable how well ceramic works! All I can say is (o invest in good pottery clay....
Yes, ceramic is a perfect material. I have a ceramic-oven which makes 1250° Celcius (=2282F). The problem is, that cermaic always shrinks a litte bit. And it should still glaze so that it does not absorb liquid

1200° Celcius and a genisis ceramic vapour plate inside:

'raidy', as I anxiously await for part 2 I'm assembling parts to be ready. My biggest decision lies w/ the caps and what device I plan to use it on or make a device around it. I have a machinist friend that can turn some aluminum caps when I can give him some drawings.

I'd like to use the first one on my Vgo, an Ego like device. This may be too small though.
