Well well,,, I did get my (400) mesh in after all. I was beginning to wonder if it would ever get here.
It took a few tries to get it where the coil wouldn't glow and still heat up good, but I think I'm on it now. The jury is still out on the taste. It does seem to wick good. Not having to drip is a big plus.

Edit after fooling around with it for a while :
@ 3.5 v It's icky sweet, and no vapor on the exhale. @ 4 v not so sweet and a bit of vapor on the exhale. @ 5 v the vapor is getting a bit to hot for my taste, but there is some vapor to play with on the exhale. So it looks like for the way this coil is set up 4.5 v is as good as it will get.

there are no best deals on mesh that have been found yet, the germans and UK both have great sites with reasonable prices whilst we take it in the pooper. there's amazon(which resells smallparts.com), mcmaster carr and hoping to find some on fleabay. The only reasonable price is The Mesh Company: Online Shop for Woven, Knitted and Perforated Mesh for Art, Craft, Floristry, Modelling and Engineering in the UK, but it's $20 for shipping. If you are buying larger quantities it makes sense, but ouchies for shipping. When I decide which mesh I like I'll probably make an order there.

I found 200 and 325 at McMaster for ~5 for the 200 and ~14 for the 325. These are the 12X12 sheets. Not sure about the shipping yet. I ordered it but they have not sent me an email with the shipping advise yet.

You should just measure the resistance on that particular coil and the volts you like it at and calculate the wattage. Then you'll know where the sweet spot is (for you) and you will be able to build to that each time going forward without trial and error.

Best method to find the optimal configuration: Try and error. Importent parameters:

1) diameter of coil
2) distance between the coil wires (should be max. 1-2mm=vapour 2-4mm=th)
3) length of kanthal
4) how strong the screen is rolled (hope translation is o.k.)

Test, test, test and suddenly it happens: the WOW-effect!

EDIT:1,5Ohms is to low! should be 2,5-2,3Ohms

That makes it un-reasonable. The old EBay scam, charge $3 for the item and $15 shipping and handling. The Mesh Company won't ship to the USA anyway.

Just found these - any good? Swatch - 3" x 3" - $8.00
Without knowing the shipping $8 means nothing.

And folks should note (Raidy's kind of explained it) there is more to mesh than just the mesh number.

Here's some #325 specs I found. A typo?
Thickness 0.0011 inches
Mesh Opening Size 0.002 inches
Mesh Number 325
Open Area % 41

Thickness 0.0014 inches
Mesh Opening Size 0.0017 inches
Mesh Number 325
Open Area % 31

Kinda like those who complain about their '510' atty without listing the maker.

Two folks could be using #325 mesh and end up with completely different results.

It's $8.00 for each 3"x3" swatch - took me about 10 seconds to find out the shipping cost using the cart. I posted the link to see if I was on the right track with the type if mesh.
