I was working at a well known tobbacco companies research facility last week, they are getting used to me showing off my ego 650 and vaping away, the conversation revealled to me what they be researching to counter the financial threat of our beloved vaping.

They are researching wrapping tobbacco in a heater to warm it up,not to ingnite it but to warm it up in a manner similar to vaping so that the smoke and flavour is released without any for of ignition, the statement was is that you only release to toxins all 5400 or so of them when you combust the ciggarette

anyone else heard of this one?

I cant remember the name of it but Tommy Lee Jones is the lead guy Premier was the name of the experimental cig I think. ITs a good movie
I dont want to go back to tobacco I like having endless flavor options. Im not picking sides it might be a good thing no idea

Boys and girls this is a lesson in how the free market system works.

Cigarettes rule the roost for 50 years, some one gets a good idea in China and makes a healthier way to get your nic fix. Its a wide open market it moves so fast Gooberment has trouble keeping up.

5 years after it hits the market its threatening the cigarette market. Not that much yet, but the BT can smell the change in the tide! They now start trying to make new and innovative products that are healthier also.

Moral to the story we all win we get a better product there's competition so the prices stay reasonable. Theres jobs and real money products being sold company's making money.
Gotta love capitalism

Interesting. I myself started vaping in order to QUIT smoking and avoid tobacco completely as well as slowly bringing the nicotine down to 0mg.

To me, it's goofy that these tobacco companies are trying to make a "healthier" cigarette and are using the e-cig style to continue to target the market. Also, heating up tobacco rather than burning it may just release the nicotine/flavor but what about all the added chemicals they add to the tobacco? Wouldn't all the added chemicals also be vaporized as well?

They know what they're doing

One of the reasons that Vaping (might) be a headache for BigT (besides the fall in revenue) is the leaf.
The nicotine we use is a 'by-product' of the tobacco industry-yep its a reprocessed (waste) product.
When I first started vaping I believed that the nicotine used was 'synthesised' in a lab-this is not true, nicotine (or a form of it) can be synthesised-but its just not viable to do this. The nicotine that vapers use is distilled from clippings and stalks from the plant-and the fine leaf is used for tobacco products
A major supplier to the Pharma grade nicotine used is Nicobrand-have a look at their 'history page here'
Nicotine Active, API, Polacrilex Gum & Pharmaceutical Products - About Us

As smokers we used to get rid of the bulk by product (the leaf) for them-in the form of ash, we distributed this around our neighbourhoods and homes,
even if 10th of all the leaf cultivated was converted to nicotine liquid there would still be mountains of spent leaf-this would cost BigT money to get rid of the 'waste'-so, its more cost effective to keep tobacco sales high-and shareholders happy.
And so the rabbit hole gets deeper :?:

Now, I do know that some tobacco companies were working on lower risk alternatives quite a while ago. When I was in grad school, my ethics teacher brought some sort of cigarette device thing to class. He had worked on it at his previous job at a tobacco company. I can't remember which one, but either Phillip Morris or RJ. He said the product ended up getting scrapped because of all the red tape that was going to be involved in marketing a lower risk alternative. I think we can imagine how that goes. He told us that he quit after that, because the only reason he had worked there was to try to come up with some safer alternative to smoking. He couldn't work for a tobacco company in good conscience otherwise.

This was in uh... Maybe 2001-2002? I can't remember exactly how he said the device worked. He did say it was mostly vapor, not smoke. It did not require lighting. I don't recall if it had any tobacco in it or not. I went up after class and sampled it. I remember wishing that something like that did exist, and then forgot about it until I started looking at ecigs in 2011.

The FDA remembers getting burned by tobacco companies with the filtered and light cigarettes. The tobacco companies are screwed from a pr standpoint no matter what they do. Nobody's going to trust them no matter what they say or do. It's a catch 22 from all directions. Smokers are the poor schmucks caught in the middle. We've been told over and over that there is no safe tobacco. Meanwhile, people have been trying to come up with ideas for safer nicotine and road blocks get thrown up.

A shift in conciousness................
I know some may say I am crazy but
12-21-12 was never going to be the end of the
world but it was resetting the clock back to zero.
A new start, the fact that this new dynamic is starting to take off with break neck speed
is all a part of the new dynamic. Just sit back
more will be revealed.
Ya gotta love it I do.........................
A shift in realization.
Those that hold on to the old will fall by the way side.
I once read in a book somewhere that you cannot
put new wine into old wine skins.....
HA I'm no church person don't profess any one belief
but can I get a witness!!!!........................lol :D

Umm,,no, they wont be wanting to pay anyone to cart it away for them-the smokers have been doing that for them for a long time-it would mean higher overheads if they had to pay to get rid of more waste.
I think you missed the point there Buzzzlove.
No I got the point but what I think and what I type aren't always the same;-) I was think about the left over tobacco leaf after its extracted for liquid nicotine. I bet as we grow there is a ever expanding pile of profitable waste product just waiting to be used somehow
