I don't know who started the Altoids mods but I love em.
When I saw Ralph T's beautiful Altoids mods that was the last straw.
I had to have one.

Specs:
3 amp high performance switch.
3 amp fuse.
Atty connector seal is solder.
Solder used to mount everything.
Only one wire.
Heat shrink used to avoid short from spare carto.
18350 batt.

Cost:
I had every thing except Altoids so pretty dang cheap.
Takes one afternoon to complete if you have the parts and tools.

Performance:
This switch fires every time.
I used same switch on DIY PT and it is excellent.

altoids tin used as an electronic case has been around for ever. i have a VV PT mod on hold using a smalls tin.

btw i like how its all soldered down with one wire. you could probably fit that into a smalls tin

I have an ugly VV mod.
I'm considering converting to a VV Altoids.
It does make lots of heat so may be like a hot potato.

Got me thinking about the small tins.
Do you happen know dimensions?
Would be cool to have a few small and a few large Altoids mods.

I've been scarfing down Altoids and handing them out to everyone so I can get started on an Altoids mod (I could always put them in a ziplock but people react funny when you offer them a mint taken out of a ziplock bag :) ).

About the hot potato'ishness of this mod, are we talking about can't hold it for more than a few seconds hot or just uncomfortable hot?

inside the open tin (where the mints are, lid open) is about 55x35x14mm LxWxH

thats aprox measurements

click my blog to see what i have in mine now. i have my pots in... but something when awry and it was pushing like 1.sum volts, no load... so i gutted it and started reworking it...

i have a freshly modded kis module, new caps, new pot, new switch, and new resistor glued in. just need to re run wires... it was probably something grounded, but couldnt find the issue and got aggravated

maybe a good project for tomorrow if its rainy

On my DIY VVPV which uses madvapes 5 amp regulator I soldered two copper coins to the heat sink.
In seconds the coins get so hot you can only touch for less than one second. That is very hot potato'ish.

The Altiods box will make an excellent heat sink and I'm thinking a powerful hand warmer too.

Specs:

10A Fuse (didn't have a 5A)
10506 5A Madvapes linear regulator
Atty connector sealed w/ solder
Heat sink soldered to body
No glue
No RTV
Batt holder held w/ soldered Cu strip
10117 MV tac switch solder mounted.

Comments:

I selected the 300g tactile switch which is a little tougher to actuate than I prefer but not as likely to fire in pocket.

Performance is excellent.

Both Altoids Mods are working great.
I put a couple solder blobs which act as feet so they stand upright.
The VV runs surprisingly cool.
The tin dissipates heat from linear regulator very efficiently.
With 3 ohm very little heat can be felt near heat sink.
With 1.6 DC I don't notice heat unless I touch heat sink area.
Batt life is pretty good.
Switching regulator is better but MV makes a linear regulator kit which is easy to install and works great.

working on a way to mount the connector on a slide mech. to fully retract the atty/carto without a huge wignut on the outside. nice for hip pocket. hmmm. guess i need to start my on thread. "love you guys."
