I recently saw a site that had a DNA20 board in an Altoids Smalls can and was impressed, so I decided to make one with less of an investment by using a TI PTN04050 board. My resistor selection is based on Breakthru's schematic and want to give him plenty of credit for inspiring this design. The mod works really well with everything I've used, though I prefer higher resistances to keep from taxing the battery too much. The voltage range is about 3.8V to 6.1V. With a small dripper, it really does disappear into my hand.

Woot another smooth vaping 4050c user

To really wake it up and not ever warm up the battery use a round lipo, it stays ice cold does not get warm using a 1.7 ohm coil..
If I put on a 2ohm using imr batts it would warm up when chain vaping.. A 1.5 would be hottish battery 1st vape, second vape even hotter battery.
16ga wiring..

The round 1200mah nano will fit that enclosure.. Its worth it, the 4050c is my favorite mod so far.
I have a 650mah lipo in mine it last 12 hours chain vaping and is still at 3.7v.. i charge at 3.7v lol
The 1200 will last ya a day and half maybe 2 days vaping anything over 2.5ohms, that board is awesome..

@asdaq I did some (not so pretty) Dremel work around the lid and to the battery clips so it shuts like normal. A pretty much perfect fit. I don't like giving myself so little space in which to work, but I like the results.

@Visus I really thought hard about picking up a round lipo for this build, but I've never used them and didn't want to get hosed on something unfamiliar. Can you charge those round lipos in a standard lithium charger like the Nitecore i4?

@DaveP Yeah man I wrapped the positive clip in Scotch 33 then used hot glue as standoff from the edges. I didn't want to cook a 14500 in a Smalls can. lol

I use an ego charger it charges pefectlyy to 4.18-9v yes you can make an adapter..

Lipo's like 4.1 as a final charge I have read so i lucked up with my ego charger..

Charges really quick too about 2.5-3 for 650mah thats highly underated I think I read somewhere they are actually 870mah.

Yeah they are no playtoys at 15c it can get ugly fast but they are really easy to work with, build to your battery and just solder those tabs, use Craigs method and some kapton and your 100 million miles and running

Dammit Visus, now I'm going to spend more money. But really, that's awesome. Can you point me toward Craig's method?

Ok when you order be patient on the webpage, after a few seconds an ad will pop up asking do you want these batteries for a considerable discount, the best I have been offered is 60 cents. Its really cool they offer a sale but you cannot be quick clicking shopping cart.

Soldering 18650s is Entirely Possible

do the turnigy nano-tech 1200mahs have to be soldered in or can they be changed out and charged outside of the device?

The soldering idea is a bit scary. Just because you don't see any external damage doesn't mean you aren't doing internal damage by applying heat. There's a reason why battery tabs are tack welded instead of being soldered.

The concepts expressed about what constitutes a parallel battery back and what it requires to charge and discharge it safely are even more frightening. Series/parallel batteries in a computer aren't just slapped in there as bare batteries so using that as an "ok" analogy is completely wrong.

The great thing about lipos if you make a soldering mistake it will swell up like a balloon. If your carfeul its not to hard to solder those tabs.
