Since beginning vaping in the first week of August, I have reduced cigs from 25/30 a day to 9/10 a day. Up till now I have relied on the Juul. Juul pods contain .7mL of nicotine salt juice at 5% nicotine. I go through about one of those a day in addition to 9/10 cigarettes. I am hoping to continue to reduce at a pace that does not involve too much suffering.

Is it possible that I am getting too much nicotine? I feel fine - no headaches or any kind of buzz, but my girlfriend, an ex-smoker, insists that what I am doing (dual using) is worse and that I should just go back to smoking and forget the vaping.

That's crazy, right?

If you aren't getting sx of nicotine OD, then you shouldn't be getting "too much" nicotine. I believe that absorption of nicotine through vaping e-juice is less than with cigarettes, so even with the Juul as a fairly potent device, as long as you aren't chain vaping it, you should be fine. Obviously, switching to just vaping is better than dual using, but every cigarette you don't smoke is a step in the right direction. Maybe you can show your GF the list of nic OD sx and reassure her that you aren't getting too much nic as you transition or at least reduce your cigarettes.

I would think it less healthy to return to "just" smoking, but you're the one who has to make that choice. Not me. Not your GF (unless you habitually go along with everything she says). Perhaps some education would be in order, she's probably just concerned about you? :) Hopefully...

IMHO, your vape juice does not have a high enough NIC content. I just started, and vaping a 18 nic content juice. I have seen other heavy smokers start at 24.

The second thing, not sure what kind of vape machine your using, I found for me as a smoker, I liked a mod with a adjustable air flow control. I have mine set so its as close to a cig for me as I can get.

Third, is Your not so much using the vape machine to replace smoking, but more as a way to stop. I look at mine like a smokable nic patch. I just keep my machine around, and use it when the urge becomes to much. Hope with in the next 30 to 60 days to drop to 12, then rinse and repeat all the way to 0

To clarify, Juul uses 50 mg nic salts, so plenty there for a pod system.

To the OP, continuing dual use does not provide the same harm reduction vaping alone provides, the fact you have already significantly reduced your tobacco consumption. It's not unusual for folks to go through a dual use period when they start out, but if your goal is to stop smoking, just keep at it and you'll get to 0 cigarettes a day. Good luck!

I have no intention of returning to 'just' smoking. In the last 30 days I smoked 450 fewer cigarettes than I would have if I had continued 'just' smoking. And I feel much better, physically and psychologically. I think I am going in the right direction.

Imho it's crazy alright, when i started vaping i got 15mg nicotine e-juices, i was dual using too (although for not as long but still) after 1 week i completely stopped using cigs and went vaping full time. Everyone quits at a different rate, it's all subjective and dosen't matter how quickly. Someone older and wiser tells everyone here that : each cig you don't smoke is a win that's how you need to see things. There isin't a one size fits all plan to quit and that's why it's important you go to the rythm that suits you,not your family or friends.

Decidedly. As others have said, if you ever get too much nicotine, you'll be the first to know. It causes headache, dizziness, nausea and possibly tiredness or agitation (don't you love those contrary symptoms) long before it gets to a level that could be toxic.

Dual using may only be marginally better than smoking, but there's no way it's worse. If you're feeling better, then it does seem to be helping and, for many, it's a key step on the path to not smoking at all. Keep it up, and good luck!

If your getting too much nic you will know it! you will get a headache and real sick to your stomach, you'll know it. I've been nic sick a few times and it's not pleasant.
What she said.

You're probably at a bigger risk of getting Vaper's Tongue--a temporary sensation of not being able to taste your vapor.

As has been said already, if you were getting too much nic you would have symptoms.

IMO, dual use while lowering cigarette consumption is just fine health-wise. I did it for a couple of weeks when I was switching. Some people do it for a couple of years, everyone is different. Once you get to no more smoking, well you'll be only vaping (and not smoking anymore) :)

Good luck with it :thumb:

there are many different "symptoms" of nic overdose...
hiccups, gagging, desire to throw up, headaches, nausea, sweating, dizzyness, lightheadedness...
my first symptom is hiccups, if I go too far, I start to feel flushed and begin to sweat and get "spacey", if I push it even further, I loose my lunch... and dual using is one of the options to reduce your need for ciggies... its called tapering off, took me over 6 months to be ciggie free...

As others, and your own body, have stated you would know if you're getting too much. And when that happens put the vape and smokes down and walk away for a little while until you feel better. There was a study published earlier this year by Cancer Research UK that found health benefits are reduced by duel using but that doesn't mean they are completely negated. Every cigarette you avoid is a little victory. It took my husband 9 months to transition and I know he's still sneaking cigarettes too, even still he's better off than he was. Best wishes! E-cigarettes safer than smoking says long-term study

Only you can say if you are getting too much nicotine and if that happens there will be no question about it! Your body will tell you as others have already stated. The positive thing is that is doesn't last long in my experience. I was a Dual User for probably 3 years before I finally decided to quit cold turkey. That was when I realized I was only kidding myself that I was really cutting down.

Good Luck and Vape On Safely
